Reporter pins Trump in a corner for claiming that books warn about “too much” virus testing
On Friday, AXIOS released a teaser clip of founder Jonathan Swan’s exclusive interview with President Trump, and there are some absolute presidential doozies within it.
A remarkable exchange sees Trump claiming that actually “there are those” — a variation on his classic “many people are saying” line that he uses to justify whatever he just made up — can do too much coronavirus testing. When Swan presses him on who is saying that, the president scrambles for an answer and decides to just tell him to “read the books” and “manuals.”
When asked what the books and manuals might be, he just repeats himself.
TRUMP: You know there are those that say, you can test too much you do know that.
SWAN: Who says that?
TRUMP: Oh, just read the manuals read the books.
SWAN: Manuals? What manuals?
TRUMP: Read the books. Read the books.
SWAN: What books?
TRUMP: Wait a minute. Let me explain. pic.twitter.com/6IzCUKM8zW— Kyle Griffin (@kylegriffin1) July 31, 2020
Other clips show Trump making incredible factual errors, like claiming that mail-in ballots are a new invention when they’ve existed since the Civil War, and appears to refuse to admit that video of Portland police viciously beating a veteran exists.4
The video paints a portrait of a man locked in a war with reality itself, willing to invent any fact or figure that serves his narrative no matter how divorced from reality it might be. It truly hits home how unqualified this man is to be president and how dire the need to remove him in the 2020 election really is.
