“Do-over”: Trump goes on executioner rant after judge reverses Boston Marathon bomber’s death sentence

In the end, Donald Trump will leave behind a legacy of death.

The deaths of what will eventually be hundreds of thousands of Americans who suffered and perished unnecessarily due to this president’s decision to play political games rather than do his job even semi-competently.

The deaths of numerous Black Americans at the hands of unjust law enforcement officers newly emboldened by Trump’s racist rhetoric and his urging them not to be “too nice” to those in their custody.

The deaths of American soldiers who were targeted by the Taliban to collect the Russian bounties on our armed forces because Trump refused to confront Vladimir Putin about the clearly unacceptable act of war, unacceptable to everyone except Donald Trump and his Kremlin controller.

Trump’s entire term in office has been a veritable festival of death for his rapture-awaiting cultists, so it came as no surprise that — rather than joining the civilized nations of the world and abandoning the death penalty that even such a spiritual authority as Pope Francis condemns as a barbaric remnant of an eye-for-an-eye paganism rather than an expression of Christian forgiveness —Donald Trump reinstituted the executions of people convicted under the federal death penalty last month for the first time since 2003.

Now, in an attempt to sell his “LAW & ORDER” schtick to voters as his obvious failures in fighting the coronavirus pandemic become more and more apparent each day,  Trump has come up with a new diversionary tactic to distract his base and help convince them not to abandon his death-spiral of a re-election campaign.

Taking aim at the judicial process once again, the president is calling for a reinstatement of the death penalty for Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev that a federal court recently ruled was improperly awarded after it determined that the original judge in the case didn’t properly screen the jurors for potential biases.

Add your name to demand Congress reject Trump’s dictatorial call to delay the election!

So much for turning the other cheek and allowing the judicial system to handle its work unimpeded by political considerations.

One can only hope that once Trump is out of office and the full extent of his alleged treason is revealed to all, he will be equally zealous in accepting the same penalty as he insists that Tsarnaev must face.

Perhaps Trump needs to refamiliarize himself with the United States Code 18 U.S.C. § 2381, which states:

“Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.”

Obviously this president believes that he will face no penalty for his misdeeds and won’t need to worry about a treason conviction, assuming perhaps that he can get the same cushy type of pardon deal that Richard Nixon managed to finagle before his resignation.

Either way, Trump seemingly thinks that the short term political gain he can reap with his executioner’s siren song outweighs any potential future accusations of hypocrisy if he ever actually faces the consequences for his traitorous actions against the U.S. Constitution.

Let’s make him eat his words when he begs the judge for mercy and begs to have his life spared after being convicted of treason.

We can dream anyway.
