Trump’s attacks on Hillary Clinton and former FBI investigator McCabe are brutally fact checked

Among the few tweets that Donald Trump has sent so far today on this unusually meager presidential posting day, one has received less attention than it deserves.

In between the president’s lamentations over being investigated for collusion with Russia and his urging his supporters to commit felony voter fraud, Trump posed a question harking back to 2016 election-era scandals that most people couldn’t care less about in this time of pestilence, hellish, climate-emergency-induced wildfires, and economic uncertainty.

As long as the president was “just askin’,” the denizens of twitter were happy to provide an answer to his paranoid, conspiracy-minded query.

Ruth Marcus, the deputy editorial page editor and a columnist with The Washington Post, gathered the facts and threw them right back in Donald Trump’s face, completely undermining any political potency that the president’s insinuating misinformation may have had with anyone outside of the most gullible sycophants in his army of deplorables.

When one realizes that the above fact check that Ms. Marcus confronts the president with dates back to July of 2017, the awareness that Trump has been successfully peddling the same batch of discredited lies for over three years now tends to inspire a great deal of anger and frustration among his many opponents.

Other Twitter responders pointed out that Trump’s arguments were totally demolished by the findings of the Republican-controlled Senate Intelligence Committee Report on Russian interference in that 2016 election, a threat that still looms large over the 2020 election.

While Twitter at least put a warning notice on Trump’s other tweet today urging his voters to illegally vote both by mail and in-person to test the validity of electoral fraud detection systems, this passel of documented false insinuations against his former investigator and his former presidential rival is allowed to remain on his feed without any official notice of its harmful misinformation.

Everyone should write to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey to ask him to do a better job of protecting the public from the president’s harmful and untruthful propaganda by booting him off the platform. at least until the election is over.

In the meantime, we’ll have to ignore Donald Trump’s tweets on a manual basis and simply hope that everyone else does the same.
