Speaker Pelosi claps back at CNBC’s Jim Cramer after he calls her “Crazy Nancy” to her face

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) appeared on CNBC for an interview with Jim Cramer earlier today and ended up reminding all of us why she is not a woman to be trifled with. While discussing the inability of the Trump White House to forge any deals with Congress despite the ongoing pandemic, Cramer stepped way over the line by disrespecting the Speaker to her face.

“What deal can we have Crazy Nancy?” said Cramer, using the distasteful nickname for Pelosi that Trump often uses. “I’m sorry! That was the president. I have such reverence for the office I would never use that term,” Cramer quickly and unconvincingly added. It was clear he wanted to use the insult but didn’t want to accept responsibility for doing so.

“But you just did,” said Pelosi, refusing to let him wiggle out of his behavior so easily.

“Oh come on,” said Cramer.

“But you just did,” repeated Pelosi.

“You know what I mean, you know what I mean,” said Cramer.

“I know what you meant. I do, I do,” said Pelosi.

“The reverence I have for the office is so great that I think it’s a travesty to ever call… Look you’ve spent your whole life in public service,” said Cramer, seemingly starting to realize what a mistake he made.

“Well you know what let me just say this, anything the president says is a projection of his own insecurities. He calls other people crazy because he knows he is. He complains about this, that, and the other thing because he knows his own shortcomings. He’s a master of projection. So anytime he says something you say ‘Uh oh that’s what he’s thinking of himself,'” said Pelosi.

“As I do this I’m touching my pin here, which is a pin that says on it—it’s a flag pin— and on it says ‘One country, one destiny. One country, one destiny.’ And that’s what we’re about,” the Speaker added, managing to simultaneously thrash Trump while offering a more hopeful vision of what being American means than the hateful definition embraced by the GOP.

The conversation moved away from the “Crazy Nancy” incident, with the Speaker offering more incisive criticisms of Trump. She explained how difficult it is getting Trump to conduct negotiations in good faith and said he has a “complete alienation with fact, data, evidence and truths.”

With the interview winding down, Cramer brought up his mistake again and said she should know he was being “facetious” when he called her “Crazy Nancy.”

“Of course I do. I have great respect for you,” said Pelosi.

“I respect anyone who gives their life to public service and is Speaker of the House should not be called that name. I don’t even want to use it again,” said Cramer.

“Don’t worry about that. Let that be your biggest problem today,” said Pelosi demonstrating the kind of grace we’ve come to expect from her.
