Maybe Donald Trump should have been nicer to some of his rivals for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.
That’s the takeaway from the news that yet another former GOP political heavyweight has joined the increasing numbers of Republicans vowing to vote for Joe Biden rather than support a man who has destroyed the party that they once dominated with policies of both social and fiscal conservatism and now lays in white supremacist tatters at their feet.
Carly Fiorina, the former Hewlett-Packard chief executive and 2016 GOP presidential candidate, told The Atlantic magazine recently that she would join many other disaffected Republicans in supporting the candidacy of former Vice President Joe Biden.
“I am encouraged that Joe Biden is a person of humility and empathy and character. I think he’s demonstrated that through his life,” Fiorina said. “And I think we need humility and empathy everywhere in public life right now. And I think character counts.”
Fiorina’s defection from the GOP is not surprising given that she supported the impeachment efforts against Trump and was the victim of the president’s insulting commentary on her appearance during the 2016 campaign.
“Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that?” Trump told Rolling Stone magazine during that race. “Can you imagine that, the face of our next president.”
“I mean, she’s a woman, and I’m not s’posedta say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?” the misogynistic soon-to-be-president rudely exclaimed.
Trump reacted to the news of his former rival’s vote of no confidence predictably, by denouncing Fiorina as a “failed presidential candidate” who “lost so badly to me.”
Hopefully, the exodus of moderate, business-oriented Republicans from the Trump coalition will result in an enormous landslide for Joe Biden and prove that not everyone in the GOP has gotten so drunk on the president’s Kool-Aid as to have lost their minds.
Join Carly Fiorina, the rest of the disaffected Republicans, aware independents, fervent Democrats, and practical progressives in ensuring Donald trump’s defeat at the ballot box in this election.
Vote for Joe Biden and the rest of the Democratic ticket in your area as early as your state allows.
