Video shows “Karen” assaulting Native protesters at Trump’s wall
One of the worst consequences of the Trump presidency by far has been the widespread emboldening of racists in America. These bigots have always existed and many of them have long been proud to display their hatred, but the election of a blatant white nationalist-sympathizer to the White House convinced others who previously thought they had to keep their racism hidden that it was acceptable to flaunt their vile beliefs. They came skittering out from beneath their rocks and wave after wave of videos showing white people harassing people of color began to flood the internet.
The latest such video to go viral was shared on Instagram last Friday. Posted by an indigenous initiative aimed at stopping the construction of Trump’s racist border wall, the segment purports to show an incredibly aggressive white woman attacking Native Americans for protesting against the wall in San Diego County.
With all the toxic entitlement we’ve come to expect from these “Karens,” the woman charges towards the tribe members hurling profanities and repeatedly telling the peaceful protestors to “get the f*ck” out of the area. At one point she can be heard ignorantly mocking the protestors for praying to the Earth.
“This is my community and you guys are disturbing the job,” the woman screams, referring to the xenophobic barrier that the MAGA president absurdly promised would solve this country’s problems. She then proceeds to slap two of the protestors who in turn attempt to physically defuse the situation without hitting her back. Displaying a level of grace and patience that the aggressor woman could only dream off, the protestors actually begin singing and chanting to peacefully deescalate.
The Instagram caption explains some of the indigenous group’s beliefs about helping future generations and ending xenophobia and calls on people who are not Black or indigenous to lend their voices and support to this cause.
“Say a prayer for these folks who are disconnected to themselves. Make space for those who are so hurt they act violently. The reason why these incidents happen is because we are so dehumanized in their eyes. And it’s been happening since the beginning of invasion. We stay non violent. We stay in prayer,” the Instagram caption concludes.
Watch the woman’s shameful assault below and then reflect on the staggering self-control displayed by the protestors weathering her bigotry in stride.
