New report claims that Trump kept asking if he was going to die while on his way to hospital

As the confusion over the actual state of Donald Trump’s current medical prognosis remained unclear on Saturday, new information from Vanity Fair journalist Gabriel Sherman points to the idea that the president’s condition has been worse than previously described.

The uncertainty over which account to believe started after Dr. Sean Conley, Trump’s personal White House physician, told reporters at a medical press conference today that the president was not having any difficulty breathing nor was he currently being administered oxygen. Concurrently, White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows was said to be telling reporters off the record that Trump’s vital signs “were very concerning and the next 48 hours will be critical in terms of his care.”

“We’re still not on a clear path to a full recovery,” Meadows, who was overheard asking to speak to reporters off the record, earlier in the day, reportedly said.

Gabriel Sherman worked his sources in the upper echelons of the GOP and posted this tweet which portrays a frightened president asking his aides if he was going to die in the hospital as his close friend Stan Chera did earlier this year after contracting the disease in New York.

Sherman further reveals that one source told him that Trump was given the choice of voluntarily being taken to Walter Reed Medical Center while he was still ambulatory, or risk being carried out later by EMT workers if his condition worsened.

It’s now no surprise that Trump opted to take the less publicly embarrassing step of leaving under his own foot power rather than being seen in a weak and vulnerable position, one that his fragile ego wouldn’t allow him to display himself in such a powerless posture.

Sherman also posited another reason that Trump (or his political handlers) may be less than candid about his true health right now: the threat of the invocation of the 25th Amendment which would temporarily hand the presidency to Vice President Mike Pence.

If the president is truly more seriously affected by his COVID-19 infection than his doctors are letting on right now, the questions about when to invoke the 25th amendment are likely to swell dramatically.

Still, the knowledge that Trump was fearful of his mortality yesterday when he was taken to Walter Reed indicates that the president may have more than simply the mild symptoms that he has officially been reported to be suffering from.

If the next 48 hours are indeed the critical point in the determination of how COVID-19 will run its course through Donald Trump’s body, we should know soon enough whether the universe has a strong sense of irony.
