Biden responds to Trump’s attacks on his family with inspiring class in new interview

Former Vice-President and Democratic nominee Joe Biden continues to strike a stunning contrast with the incumbent President Donald Trump, particularly when it comes to issues of class and decency. While the President and his cronies have spent the past two weeks desperately running a largely baseless and wildly nebulous smear campaign against Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden, accusing the elder Biden of profiting off his son’s business interests and intimating ethical misconduct.

It is breathtaking to see the hypocrisy with which Trump deploys these attacks, seeing as he has spent his entire presidency funnelling every last taxpayer dollar he and his swinish family can lay their hands on into the Trump Organization and using government resources to advance their own business interests across the world. Joe Biden would be well within his rights to level the same charges against his political opponent, especially since the allegations against the Trump family are both credible and extremely well documented — but the Democratic nominee pushed back against that notion in a new interview.

It’s a specific decision. And I just think it’s crass,” said Biden to the hosts of political podcast Pod Save America, which is helmed by ex-Obama staffers. “Look, I’m running against Donald Trump, not his children. And the American people want to hear about their families. Not about Trump’s family or my family, although I’m very proud of my family. It’s just not how I was raised. It’s that basic. It’s Donald Trump.”

Any reasonable person would agree that if there was any family that deserved to be raked over the coals, it’s Trump’s family, who have used the president’s image to solicit Chinese investors for their companies in exchange for American visas, charged the Secret Service outrageous sums of money for golf carts, held government events at Trump properties, and deliberately spiked a nationwide cornavirus testing program because it would have helped too many Democratic voters.

But his decision to focus on American families is both wise and demonstrative of the fundamental difference in charachter between the two men. While Trump views the presidency as simply a tool for him to boost his ego and fill his pockets, Joe Biden is showing that his first priority is the well-being of the American people — and as a coronavirus surge sends the daily infection rate rapidly approaching 100,000 a day, we desperately need a real leader in the White House more than ever.
