Republican Congressman records weird horror film-looking video warning about “compromised” election

The Republicans are not well. With the defeat of their cretinous leader at the ballot box by Joe Biden, the MAGA crowd is retreating into a miasma of conspiracy theories and pathological delusions. Some of them seem simply incapable of conceiving of a world in which Donald Trump is not president, in which the most powerful country in the world and its nuclear arsenal aren’t subject to the whims of an egomaniacal gameshow host.

Others, like Congressional Republicans, know full well that Trump’s claims of voter fraud and a stolen election are shameless lies but are choosing to humor him in order to pander to his base. Eventually though, all of them—the president included—will be forced to face the truth. Joe Biden is our next president.

All of which is not to say that there won’t be serious, long-term consequences to Trump’s decision to cast doubt on the legitimacy of our elections. His claims of mass voter fraud are likely to burrow deep into the fevered minds of far-right Americans, never to dislodge. Hopefully, none of his lunatic followers resort to violence to right what their warped worldview sees as a cosmic wrong. At the very least, we can expect them to continue screeching and hurling around insane talking points.

Add your name to states not to cave Trump. COUNT EVERY VOTE!

Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA) has quickly pulled ahead of the pack in the contest for craziest response from an elected official. Higgins—who drew headlines for filming himself inside an Auschwitz gas chamber—shared a bizarre video of himself in a dark room, lit in by eery red light, spewing claims that the election was rigged.

The video has the feel of a found-footage horror film and starts with the Congressman darkly intoning that Donald Trump has been “an anointed blessing to our nation” before going on to claim without evidence that he has “inside data” showing the election has been “compromised.” Given the fact that he seems to not even have a properly functioning light or high-resolution camera, the claim seems dubious at best.

Higgins goes on to ramble about the “dissolution of our Republic” and other apocalyptic images before sounding off with a weird noise. Clearly, this man is better suited to the psych ward of a hospital than the United States House of Representatives. The good people of Lousiana would be wise to recognize that.
