McEnany’s misinformation press conference gets so bad that Fox News cuts away

Joe Biden will be the next president of the United States but the current occupant of the White House still refuses to accept this fact. Trump is insisting that he won the election, alleging that a conspiracy of widespread voter fraud is working to rob him of his rightful victory. The claim is patently untrue but the president’s surrogates are supporting it anyway.

Today, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany—one of Trump’s most loyal serial liars—held a press conference with Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel and unloaded a string of misinformation and excuses aimed at justifying the president’s continued refusal to concede.

She claimed that the Trump campaign wants “every legal vote to be counted,” which has become the preferred method in recent days by which conservatives pretend to respect our democratic process while implying without evidence that there are some kind of “illegal votes” currently tainting the results.

Add your name to tell Trump: You Lost! Concede!

When pressed on whether or not she knows if “fraudulent votes” were actually cast, McEnany refused to give a straight answer and instead said the Trump team is asking for “patience” and referenced vague “reports” about voting irregularities. In other words, it was immediately apparent that they have no hard evidence for their wild allegations.

McEnany repeated Trump’s lie that observers weren’t allowed into the count room even though the president’s lawyers have already admitted in court that their observers were indeed allowed inside for the ballot counting. She baselessly accused the Democratic Party of “welcoming” voter fraud, once again failing to provide any proof that such fraud occurred. Fox News carried the segment and host Neil Cavuto felt the need to interrupt and address his viewers as McEnany alluded to illegal votes.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa! I just think we have to be very clear. She’s charging that the other side is welcoming fraud and welcoming illegal voting,” said Cavuto. “Unless she has more details to back that up, I can’t in good countenance continue showing this. I want to make sure that maybe they do have something to back that up. But that’s an explosive charge to make, that the other side is effectively rigging and cheating.”

After four years of shilling for the Trump administration, Fox’s decision to undermine the president’s election propaganda is a telling sign. It seems that Rupert Murdoch’s media empire on some level realizes that the Trump era is over, that no barrage of lies can wrest victory away from  Biden at this point. Come January, he’s our president.
