President Trump still has not conceded to President-elect Joe Biden even though it’s now undeniable that—barring some unforeseen undemocratic overturning of the American people’s electoral will—the Republican incumbent no longer has a path to a second term. Foreign leaders have been calling Joe Biden for days to congratulate him and lay the groundwork for a working relationship with his administration while Trump spends his days ranting on Twitter about how he is being robbed by imagined mass voter fraud.
Fox News has called the race for Biden, even if some of its reporters and pundits are still pretending as if there’s a chance for a Trump victory. The lack of a network-wide, full-throated endorsement of the president’s claims that the election is being stolen has clearly irritated Trump though, as he decided to take aim at Fox on Twitter today.
Ever the washed-up, viewership-obsessed gameshow host, Trump claimed that Fox’s daytime ratings have “completely collapsed” and that weekend daytime ratings are “even WORSE.” He added that it’s “very sad” to see it happen but that they have only themselves to blame for turning their back on him. They “forgot what made them successful, what got them there,” he said.
“They forgot the Golden Goose. The biggest difference between the 2016 Election, and 2020, was @FoxNews,” Trump added, seemingly tacitly admitting that he lost this election while simultaneously blaming Fox for the loss because they didn’t support him aggressively enough.
The reality, of course, is that Fox was incredibly, absurdly pro-Trump during the entire election cycle. Hannity, Carlson, and Ingraham regularly made apologies or ignored Trump’s worst blunders and spent most of their time attacking Joe Biden and the Democrats. Unfortunately for the president, most Americans saw through their lies.
More importantly, the president is focused on ranting about ratings as COVID-19 surges throughout the country. As always, his priorities are deeply skewed. His own ego is far more important to him than the 140,000 new cases of coronavirus confirmed in America yesterday or even the roughly 240,000 Americans who have died from it so far. This man is determined to neglect and hurt this country right up until the last minute and a Joe Biden presidency cannot come soon enough.
