Ivanka’s tone deaf Pearl Harbor tweet sparks brutal backlash on Twitter
Seventy-nine years ago today, the Empire of Japan launched a devastating surprise attack on the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor, resulting in the deaths of thousands of brave Americans. The ill-considered attack fundamentally reshaped the flow of history as it drew America into World War II and ultimately led to the defeat of the Axis Powers and the rise of the United States as the world’s supreme superpower. For those of us who see the U.S. as the world’s foremost battlement against global fascism, today is a day to reflect on those who have given their lives for this country and to offer appreciation for their sacrifices.
For people like the Trumps—for whom authoritarianism is a desirable state of governance so long as they’re holding the reins of authority—today offers them another cynical opportunity to pay lip service to this nation’s most sacred values while undermining them at every turn. To those ends Ivanka Trump penned a tweet about Pearl Harbor today, claiming that she is “forever grateful for the fortitude and spirit of the great generation before us.”
Add your name to tell Trump: You Lost! Concede!
The message should not for even a moment be interpreted in good faith given the manner in which she has supported her father even as he has weakened the pillars of our democracy and demeaned dead service members. The Trumps have far more in common with the Japanese pilots who strafed sailors at Pearl Harbor and the Germans who manned the pillboxes at Normandy than they do with the Americans who fought in that war.
On days like today, it would be better if Ivanka simply said nothing at all. Her tepid tweet is a disgrace to those who died on December 7, 1941 because it’s obvious she’s retching up this rhetoric for purely political reasons.
It all takes on especially gross tint when one considers the number of Americans who have died from COVID-19 due to her father’s inaction and incompetence. The Trump family will have the blood of perhaps hundreds of thousands of Americans on their hands before this pandemic ends. The Kamikaze could have only ever dreamed of such devastation.

Twitter users were understandably outraged by the First Daughter’s tweet.
A Pear Harbor’s worth of Americans is dying every day thanks to your father’s and husband’s criminal negligence.

The greatest generation actually fought Nazis, they didn't invite them to hate rallies and sell them red hats.

Tell me, who in your family put their life in the line to serve our country? I believe the answer is nobody.

The president should be laying a wreath AT Pearl Harbor. For my entire military career including time stationed in Hawaii, a president has laid a wreath AT Pearl on December 7th. I have yet to see the photo of trump doing that. My military heart aches at the disrespect he shows.

What do you or your family know about sacrifice or honor? We're on the edge of our seat.

I find it repugnant when you and your family talk of service and sacrifice. Best you say nothing at all. Signed, an ex serviceman.

Like you REALLY care! The only reason you keep tweeting ANYTHING is to keep your name out there. Well we will see how much you like your name in the news when Daddy Diaper Don aka @realDonaldTrump is no longer protected after 1/20/21 from the State of NY & that includes YOU! https://t.co/5KkubhVX1J

Who writes this rubbish? You hypocrite. Go on. Tell us how you are remembering the 79th anniversary. By not eating sushi? You really are an empty vessel, as they will find out when you are in prison when Helen Herpes, or Virginia Warts becomes your protector. https://t.co/6Qww7Ox32S

That was back in the day when our servicemen didn't fake bone spurs. https://t.co/iU5yKMRYyi
