New report reveals Ivanka and Kellyanne Conway personally interfered in CDC’s pandemic work
As the coronavirus pandemic continues to rage across the United States and the death toll skyrockets above 300,000 lives lost, the behind-the-scenes story of the Trump administration’s deadly mismanagement and negligence continues to unfold — with each new development more infuriating than the last.
New reporting from the New York Times details how Trump and his cronies crushed the independence of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and forced the agency to put science and fact aside in favor of the administration’s monstrous efforts to downplay the severity of the pandemic and minimize the damage to the economy during an election year.
Former CDC appointees Kyle McGowan, chief of staff, and his deputy, Amanda Campbell, made the courageous decision to go public with their story and tell the nation how their efforts to save lives were muffled by the White House and interfered with by unqualified Trumpworld bigwigs like his daughter Ivanka Trump and his spin doctor, Kellyanne Conway.
“What was so different, though, was the political involvement, not only from H.H.S. but then the White House, ultimately, that in so many ways hampered what our scientists were able to do,” said Campbell to the Times’ Noah Weiland.

The Trump team, as we know, was fixated on mitigating damage to the economy and worked hard to overrule the CDC’s recommendations for keeping people safe from the vicious disease and keep damaging information under wraps — including demands that the CDC “revise, delay, or scuttle” drafts of the agency’s Mortality and Morbidity reports in an effort to keep Trump from shouldering any blame for the staggering number of lives lost.
On top of that, Weiland reports that “often, Mr. McGowan and Ms. Campbell mediated between [CDC director] Dr. Redfield and agency scientists when the White House’s requests and dictates would arrive: edits from [White House budget director] Mr. Vought and Kellyanne Conway, the former White House adviser, on choirs and communion in faith communities, or suggestions from Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter and aide, on schools.
It goes without saying that Ivanka and Kellyanne are both wildly unqualified to do anything involving the CDC’s work and have absolutely no business sticking their surgically altered noses anywhere near pandemic safety-related messaging, but did so anyway on behalf of the president and his lethal agenda.
Coupled with today’s concurrent report that showed a top Trump Health and Human Services appointee vigorously pushing for millions of Americans to contract COVID-19 in order for us to achieve “herd immunity,” it’s clear that the Trump administration is deliberately responsible for exacerbating the spread of the COVID-19 virus with the knowledge that the poor and minorities would be hit the hardest.
All those involved should face criminal charges for their negligence once the Joe Biden administration begins.
