Senator Marco Rubio — or as the president he has enabled for four years likes to refer to him: “Little Marco”— has cultivated a reputation for being one of the most unbearably sanctimonious politicians on Twitter. The failed presidential candidate lacks the spine to actually do anything about the countless inequities and cruelties his party regularly inflicts on the American people but he’s more than happy to blast out Bible quotes and tweets about love and courage.

Rubio stood by as Donald Trump pillaged our federal government and enabled mass death by failing to competently respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. As this president shredded our national reputation on the world stage, the Florida senator stood quietly on the side, terrified to speak up for fear of alienating the president’s base. Now that Trump has been defeated by President-elect Biden, Rubio appears to be once again finding his voice as he rushes to denounce behavior from Democrats far tamer than what he tolerated from Trump.

In a new interview with Glamour magazine, Biden’s incoming Deputy Chief of Staff Jen O’Malley Dillon not unreasonably referred to Republican politicians as “f*ckers” while discussing the possibility of compromise with the GOP.

“The president-elect was able to connect with people over this sense of unity. In the primary, people would mock him, like, ‘You think you can work with Republicans?’ I’m not saying they’re not a bunch of f*ckers. Mitch McConnell is terrible,” said O’Malley Dillon. “But this sense that you couldn’t wish for that, you couldn’t wish for this bipartisan ideal? He rejected that. From start to finish, he set out with this idea that unity was possible, that together we are stronger, that we, as a country, need healing, and our politics needs that too.”

Add your name to tell Trump: You Lost! Concede!

Never ones to miss an opportunity for staggering hypocrisy, Republican politicians are now clutching their pearls over the use of the word “f*ckers,” presumably because they think the rest of us are suffering from mass amnesia and have forgotten that they gleefully supported a man who bragged on tape about sexually assaulting women. The faux outrage emanating from the right over this utterly anodyne quote also intentionally ignores O’Malley Dillon’s point that bipartisanship is something to be desired.

Little Marco, as craven as ever, tweeted last night that President-elect Biden “talks about unity and healing” but chose a Deputy Chief of Staff who “called Republicans in Congress a bunch of f***ers.” Ignoring the obvious reality that many Congressional Republicans are in fact “f***ers,” does Rubio really think anyone is going to interpret his tweet in good faith? This is the same senator who stood on stage during the 2016 Republican primaries and implied that Donald Trump has a small penis. A paragon of decency he is not.

The outspoken women who host the popular show The View were quick to slam Rubio and his Republican cronies over their fabricated outrage. Ana Navarro, a Republican and frequent critic of the Trump administration, had particularly blunt words for the Florida senator.

“I have an issue with Marco Rubio and other Republicans, I guess he’s been a little busy tweeting Bible verses and might have missed when the president they’ve been genuflecting to the last four years boasted about grabbing a woman by a word I can’t say on TV or said that people that came from Africa and Latin America came from countries that I can’t say on TV or called Black athletes who took a knee ‘sons of b*tchs’ and when Ted Yoho calls Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez a ‘b*tch’ at the capitol?” said Navarro.

“If you were okay with the likes of Steven Bannon as chief of staff and okay with the likes of Stephen Miller, if you’ve been okay with a president who paid hush money to a stripper and who has given us a slew of bad worded we can’t say on TV then I think you really should save your outrage, four faux outrage for an Emmy or Oscar-nominated speech at some point but just spare us this level of hypocrisy for the love of God. Spare me the hypocrisy at this point so close to Christmas,” she added, giving a voice to the collective frustration we all feel when confronted with such flagrant GOP bad faith.

Rubio’s tweet has since gone incredibly viral, with Twitter users both famous and unknown rushing in to pillory the little guy.
