Just when you thought that Fox News’ most reprehensible Nazi-sympathizer couldn’t go any lower, Tucker Carlson has hit the Mariana Trench of despicability.
This poor excuse for a TV journalist had the audacity to attack incoming First Lady Dr. Jill Biden not only for her desire to be properly respected by being addressed by her professional title as a Ph.D. in Education, but had the sophomoric nerve to label her as “illiterate” during his broadcast last night.
The attack came just days after Rupert Murdoch’s right-wing media empire first launched its coordinated assault against the wife of President-elect Joe Biden with an editorial deriding her for using the honorific of “Doctor” without a medical degree — something for which anyone who has put the long hours of study and effort into their doctoral dissertation surely deserves to be recognized and which is how media outlets have regularly referred to male holders of PhDs like Henry Kissinger.
In Tucker Carlson’s eyes the only recognition that Dr. Jill Biden. deserves for her doctoral dissertation at the University of Delaware in 2007 is as “our national shame.”
“Dr. Jill needs reading glasses,” Carlson said, as he picked apart the new First Lady’s thesis. “Either that or she’s borderline illiterate. There are typos everywhere including in the first graph of the introduction. Dr. Jill can’t write. She can’t really think clearly either. Parts of the dissertation seem to be written in a foreign language using English words. They’re essentially pure nonsense like pig latin or dogs barking.”
“The whole thing is just incredibly embarrassing and not simply to poor illiterate Jill Biden but to the college that considered this crap scholarship, embarrassing in fact to our entire system of higher education, to the nation itself,” Carlson, who was expelled from boarding school and only earned a B.A. degree in history, insulted Dr. Biden with an ill-considered critique that he was poorly positioned to make.
Perhaps Dr. Biden’s dissertation had way too many big words for the lesser-educated Fox News host to comprehend, but Carlson added injury to insult by beginning his segment about Dr. Biden by imagining a scenario in which someone who has suffered a massive heart attack is mistakenly brought to Dr. Biden instead of a cardiologist and subsequently succumbs to their affliction.
While such a scenario would certainly launch a huge lawsuit against whatever ambulance company was foolish enough to make the mistake of not rushing their patient straight to the emergency room at a hospital, it should also inspire a defamation lawsuit by Dr. Biden against an ignorant and misogynistic TV talking head.
Anticipating criticism like this for his attacks on the incoming First Lady, Carlson warned his viewers that he’d be cornered for his comments.
“Whatever you do, do not make fun of it. If you dare to notice that Dr. Jill isn’t a supergenius, you hate all women. You’re a dangerous misogynist,” Carlson declared, accusing Dr. Biden of using “fake” credentials to “justify their power over you.”
This wasn’t the first time that Tucker Carlson addressed the issue of the otherwise unquestioned legitimacy of Jill Biden’s doctorate degree. Just a day earlier, he claimed that she is “not a doctor” except “maybe in the same sense Dr. Pepper is.”
A more appropriate question to ask is whether Tucker Carlson, one of the most prolific promulgators of the torrent of lies issued daily by the Trump White House, is a real journalist or not.
Journalism implies coverage of news that is fact-based, not something with which Tucker Carlson seems to have the least bit of familiarity.
As to the reasons behind Carlson’s regular display of misogyny, racism, and reactionary malevolence, Tucker is going to have to seek the opinion of a different type of doctor, a doctor of psychiatry.
