The onset of winter and the beginning of a new year are the perfect time to reflect on our blessings, particularly after a year as difficult as 2020 has been for most of us.
One of the most celebratory events of this maligned year was, of course, the ouster in the November elections of that stain on the body politic, Donald Trump, from his minority presidency that he utilized to practically destroy our nation.
One, however, cannot discount the importance of another significant milestone achieved this year: the removal of another major pox from the national stage with what may be the final radio broadcast from right-wing propagandist Rush Limbaugh ever.
The ultra-conservative talk radio host ended his 2020 broadcast year telling his listeners that he “wasn’t expected to be alive today” due to his diagnosis with a terminal case of Stage IV lung cancer.
“I wasn’t expected to make it to October, and then to November, and then to December,” Limbaugh said. “And yet, here I am and today, got some problems, but I’m feeling pretty good today.”
While it may be unseemly to gloat at the misfortune of others — something that Limbaugh himself had no trouble doing if you were a refugee seeking asylum in this country or any other of the frequent targets of his right-wing venom — the prospect of the disappearance of his invective from the airwaves and the knowledge that one may never again be subjected to his rivulets of hatred streaming from the radio in a taxi or luncheonette sparked joy in many social media responses to the news.
Here are a few of the best reactions to both the news of his imminent departure and to his legacy as a monger of fear and hatred as Twitter bid Rush Limbaugh a collective “good riddance.”
Rush Limbaugh is a demagogue who got rich off of hate speech, division, lies and toxicity. I have compassion for anyone suffering from cancer, but despite his illness, Limbaugh just kept doubling down on his bet against democracy. His legacy is shameful. Good riddance.

The Rush Limbaugh show is over.

Rush Limbaugh spent his entire career spewing malignant lies into the American body politic.
If he can't make it back on the air, then this nation will be better off for it.

Without Rush Limbaugh paving the path of hatred for decades someone like Donald Trump could never have gotten elected. You can argue that Rush Limbaugh has harmed this country more than any single person.

Cancer is horrible.
Rush Limbaugh is a gigantic asshole.
Both can be true.

I don't feel sorry for Rush Limbaugh, Karma always comes to collect.
Live a better life next time.

#RushLimbaugh is asking for prayers for his final days?
Oh, I'm praying… pic.twitter.com/HvaZkzWXtW

Rush Limbaugh is a major reason Repubs are brainwashed today! There are many Right Wing talk radio hosts, but Rush is the biggest! When he is “gone’ for good, will be a huge loss for them. Democrats need to invest in Radio more, especially in Red America! They need to hear TRUTH!

For any aspiring talk radio hosts who hope to take up Limbaugh’s reprehensible mantle, perhaps you should read the above reactions and think about how you may want to be remembered when you prepare to shuffle off this mortal coil before pursuing that path.
And for those who may think that even someone like Rush Limbaugh deserves more compassion as he suffers through his final days, we’ll leave you with this last post outlining exactly why he deserves nothing of the sort, having offered no compassion of his own.

To his many detractors, Rush Limbaugh is worse than a dirtbag. He’s a treasonous dirtbag.
May his passing come quickly, if not painlessly, to put us all out of his misery.
