AUDIO: Rudy Giuliani asked Alabama’s new Senator to slow down vote count

  • Giuliani's sedition attempt on Trump's behalf is so blatant, he just left his plan on a voicemail message.

Conservative journalists just released a bombshell voicemail from Donald Trump’s personal lawyer asking Alabama’s newly sworn-in U.S. Senator to seditiously impede the electoral vote count after today’s attempted coup d’ tat. (embedded below)

Rudy Giuliani left a message intended for Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) on another Republican senator’s voicemail, who disclosed it to the journalist Stephen Hayes. In the recording, Trump’s lawyer asks Tuberville to file more objections to slow down the electoral count further with frivolous challenges.

The former New York City Mayor Giuliani spent the better part of last year working with a sanctioned Russian intelligence agent drumming up dirt on Joe Biden. He wasn’t going to quit on Trump’s campaign to disrupt the vote count that early.

Giuliani’s stated goal in the call in which he introduced himself as “the President’s lawyer” was to give state legislatures “more time” to change electoral votes, even though legislatures generally don’t have any power to change a state’s election results after the fact, a common-sense measure which Trump nonetheless has fruitlessly tried for well over a month now. The Dispatch reports:

“I want to discuss with you how they’re trying to rush this hearing and how we need you, our Republican friends, to try to just slow it down so we can get these legislatures to get more information to you,” Giuliani said in a voicemail.

“And I know they’re reconvening at 8 tonight, but it … the only strategy we can follow is to object to numerous states and raise issues so that we get ourselves into tomorrow—ideally until the end of tomorrow. I know McConnell is doing everything he can to rush it, which is kind of a kick in the head because it’s one thing to oppose us, it’s another thing not to give us a fair opportunity to contest it.”

Seditious conspiracy is a grave crime when two people conspire to delay or hinder the execution of laws of the United States, which is generally used in the context of a rebellion to overthrow the government.

Rudy Giuliani’s voicemail appears to be soliciting that exact kind of conspiracy. Even if Trump’s lawyer didn’t commit a criminal offense, coming in the wake of his participation in the incitement to insurrection earlier today, this shows just how desperate he and Trump are to forestall the completion of the election and President-elect Joe Biden’s win.

There is no other reason to delay the certification of Biden’s win, which is running past midnight into early Thursday morning as Republican Senators have finally given up on supporting the objections of their 121 party members in the House who believe that Congress should decide who is the president and not the voters. CNN reported that Trump took delight in causing a domestic terror attack because it delayed the vote certifying his loss.

Today was a shameful chapter in American history. After umpteen warnings about Donald Trump’s rising autocracy and his delight in using typically fascist tactics, he spurred a seditious insurrection with the explicit goal of stopping the vote count in Congress.

Nothing can be shocking after watching the Capitol sacked and four people killed during a Congress’s joint session. And it’s not even surprising anymore that Rudy Giuliani would leave an incriminating voicemail message.

But it is newsworthy that Trump, even lacking Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook (though still having nuclear codes), is still leading the charge to overturn Joe Biden’s democratic election as our next President.

Vice President Mike Pence formally declared Joe Biden the next president at 3:41 am on the morning of Thursday, January 7th, 2021.

He cannot be inaugurated as our 46th President soon enough.
