Trump’s Bedminster golf club ditched as 2022 PGA championship location after invasion of Congress

While Democratic politicians — and even a few Republicans — are clamoring for Donald Trump to resign, calling for his impeachment or for the invocation of the 25th Amendment to remove him from office after he helped incite his followers to storm the Capitol to try to stop the certification of Joe Biden as our next president, the PGA of America, the leading association for the golf industry in America, have found a way to hit the treasonous Trump where it really hurts.

According to NJ.com, the PGA, which sponsors most of the major golf tournaments in the country, has decided to cancel the choice of the Trump National Bedminster golf course in New Jersey as the site of its 2022 PGA Championship tournament.

The decision was explained by Golfweek‘s Eamon Lynch who revealed that the PGA had been contemplating the move for the past two years and would announce a new allocation for the PGA tournament once Trump was safely out of office and unable to retaliate.

Lynch wrote a scathing manifesto in his Golfweek column calling on professional golf to sever all of its ties to the traitorous president after Wednesday’s events.

“The odds that ’22′s PGA Championship will happen as scheduled in New Jersey are about as good as the chances of you or I winning it. Seth Waugh, the PGA of America’s CEO, was a banker and has an alert eye for high-risk exposure. He knows that Trumpism is likely to be an equally incendiary force in the ’22 midterm elections and that any affiliation is poisonous. Waugh will be forced to move the event and face down a small but vocal faction of his membership who remain true believers. Moving its major from Trump National has been debated internally at the PGA for more than two years, but executives have been reluctant to antagonize a famously vindictive man who controls the Internal Revenue Service. Such concerns melt away in 10 days, if not sooner,” Lynch wrote.

The golf columnist worries that figures in professional golf have alienated many of their fans by tying themselves too closely to Trump who has spent an inordinate amount of time during his presidency on the links at his own golf resorts at considerable taxpayer expense. Lynch now says the time has come to break away from the departing president.

“The events of January 6 that left five people dead ought to make him a pariah everywhere. Including in golf,” he declared.

“Reputations too have been left bruised in the eyes of many golf fans. Like those of Jack Nicklaus and Nancy Lopez, both of whom have long been celebrated for their character and rectitude. Both supported Trump in the waning days of the election campaign, despite clear signs he would not accept any result he didn’t like…. Arguably even more sullied are the reputations of Gary Player and Annika Sorenstam, who attended the White House to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom from the man who just one day earlier had incited the mob that killed a police officer,” Lynch continued while naming names.

The Golfweek journalist worries that the association with Trump may harm the public’s perception of the game of golf as an elitist pastime for empathy-less one-percenters.

“The game will instead be portrayed as Trump’s refuge, something he did while ignoring a pandemic that has claimed 365,000 lives, refusing to acknowledge a resounding electoral defeat, and inciting feeble-minded fascists to violence that left five people dead at the opposite end of Pennsylvania Avenue,” Lynch warns.

Lynch’s ultimate recommendation to the world of professional golf applies equally to every sphere of American life.

“This game should not be the familiar bosom to which he can safely retreat while fending off indictments. He is finally and deservedly being expelled from civic life. He needs to be driven from golf, too.”

To strip Trump of his golfing bona-fides may seem like a meager punishment for all of his misdeeds, but given the immensely negative psychological reaction that he would likely have to such a move, it is a great way to start to pay him back for all the damage he has done to America.
