Donald Trump is no longer President of the United States of America. After four years of unprecedented disaster, we once again have a leader in the White House who cares about this nation’s future and believes in its deepest-held values.
President Biden faces an array of problems unlike those inherited by anyone to come before him: a raging pandemic that has already killed over 400,000 Americans, a people so politically divided that one side actually rose up in insurrection against the government, and a global landscape where America’s alliances have been undermined and her reputation tarnished. Hard work lies ahead, but it’s only fair that we all take a moment to celebrate now that we’ve rid ourselves of the worst president in our history.
Part of that celebrating can’t help but manifest as schadenfreude at former President Trump’s expense. Mockery and ill-wishes aimed at the disgraced game show host who tried to destroy our democracy have been flooding the internet. Climate activist Greta Thunberg, who has feuded heavily with Trump and his family in the past, decided to get in a shot of her own on Twitter.
In what was clearly a deeply sarcastic tone, Thunberg shared a picture of Trump departing the White House in Marine One and said he looked like a “very happy old man” with a “bright and wonderful future.” Today, of course, is the worst day in Donald Trump’s presidency as he has not only been ousted from power after only one term but will go down in history as the only president to be impeached twice. One can only imagine the emotional and psychological agony a toxic egomaniac such as he experiences at a moment like this.
As for Trump’s “future,” banks, businesses, and individuals are fleeing him en masse after his role in the Capitol insurrection. Many of the people he hoped to do business with after leaving office now view him as radioactive. Donald Trump is leaving 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and entering a cold, cold world. Every bit of misfortune ahead of him is richly deserved.
He seems like a very happy old man looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see! pic.twitter.com/G8gObLhsz9
