AOC goes for the Republican Party’s jugular over their support of Marjorie Taylor Greene
Democrats are currently engaged in the process of stripping Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-GA) of her House committee assignments. A deranged supporter of QAnon—the conspiracy theory which holds that Satanic Democrats are secretly engaged in child abuse rituals behind closed doors—as well as a 9/11 truther and a believer that school shootings are really false flag operations aimed at curtailing gun rights, Greene simply cannot be trusted to hold such crucial positions of power. She must be removed from both the Education and Labor Committee and the Budget Committee.
Unable to defend her numerous deeply deranged remarks, Greene is instead arguing that she is being targeted because she’s white, a laughable defense that just goes to prove she doesn’t have a leg to stand on here. There’s no way to justify the things she said to anyone not already deep within the collective right-wing fever dream so she’s reduced to just throwing boilerplate conservative grievances against the wall to see what sticks. It won’t work and with Democrats in control of the House, she stands little chance of holding onto her committee assignments.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), never afraid to go toe to toe with the worst the Republican Party has to offer, tweeted about Greene today, pointing out that Republicans were trying to send some twisted “message” by choosing to appoint someone to the Education and Labor Committee who believes that the tragic Sandy Hook shooting was a hoax and that Parkland shooting survivors deserve to be mocked. The message, of course, is that the Republican Party wants to maintain the support of the mouthbreathing, gun-toting, conspiracy theorists who formed a large portion of Donald Trump’s base.
AOC pointed out that committee assignments are decided by the individual representatives but must be chosen by GOP leadership. In other words, those in control of the Republican Party saw something to gain by placing a lunatic like Greene on these two committees. They’re now destined to own her bigotry and insanity and voters would be wise to remember that come the 2022 mid-terms. In the meantime, Greene herself would be wise to steer clear of AOC unless she wants to be exposed even further as the intellectual nitwit she so clearly is.
Honestly what message were Republicans trying to send by appointing to the Education and Labor Committee a woman who believes the Sandy Hook shooting was fake and mocks Parkland survivors?
