Donald Trump may be gone for the moment but the Republican Party shows no signs of regaining its sanity any time soon. The paranoia and wholesale rejection of objective reality have taken root at the heart of the GOP and lunatics like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene are emerging as the new faces of the GOP.
Greene, in particular, has been receiving a lot of negative media coverage recently and rightfully so. The Georgia Congresswoman has voiced all manner of deranged ideas from supporting the QAnon conspiracy theory, to claiming school shootings are false flag operations orchestrated by gun-grabbing liberals, to even suggesting that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi should be executed. She is in every sense a perfect distillation of the MAGA ethos and completely unfit in every way to hold public office.
At the very least, Greene should be barred from serving on committees where her insane worldview might directly and negatively impact the lives of everyday Americans. House Democrats are expected to strip her of her positions on the House Education and Labor Committee and the Budget Committee. One need not explain why a woman who believes school shootings are staged should be banned from an education committee.
Numerous members of Congress recognize the risk of allowing Greene to remain in power and have already introduced a bill to remove her from Congress based on her “repeated endorsements of sedition, domestic terrorism, and political violence.” The fact that her removal won’t sail through unanimously is a damning indictment of the Republican Party. As an organization, they’ve repeatedly refused to condemn the extremist elements metastasizing within their ranks and Greene will likely be just the first of many such lunatics elected if they don’t take immediate action.
Greene herself tweeted yesterday, addressing the plans to remove her from her committee assignments. She painted herself as a victim by pointing out that she is “brand new to Congress.” She insisted that other members of Congress are “career politicians” who have “enslaved Americans to nearly $30 trillion in debt,” conveniently ignoring the fact that Donald Trump, a man she enthusiastically supported, skyrocketed the debt by giving massive tax cuts to the super-rich.
The hollowness of her deficit hawkism was revealed in the very same tweet as she called to waste taxpayer dollars on a pointless border wall that would accomplish nothing beyond pandering to Republican xenophobes. The final kicker was her decrying the murdering of babies, by which she is obviously referring to a woman’s right to choose.
It’s telling that Greene’s defensive tweet in no way addressed the reasons why she is going to be removed from her committees and instead relied on boilerplate GOP talking points. Clearly, there is no way to justify some of the heinous things she has said and she knows it.
Who should be removed from those committees?
Me – brand new to Congress?
The career politicians who've enslaved Americans to nearly $30 trillion in debt, puts up walls to protect themselves but no wall to protect you, and murdered babies with your tax dollars?

Today, it was revealed that Democrats will proceed with plans to remove Greene from her committee assignments. It’s a move that could—in addition to preventing her conspiracy theories from leaking into policy decisions—drastically affect Greene’s ability to raise reelection funds. Without the powerful levers of committee influence at her disposal, she will likely become far less attractive to donors looking to influence Congressional decisions.
Greene is understandably worried about her committee removal and fired off another panicky tweet today in which she claimed that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) would “pull every identity politics trick in the book” to defend a Democrat, whatever that means. She insisted that she’s being targeted because she’s a “White, Woman, Mother, Christian, Conservative, Business Owner.” Really she’s being targeted because she’s an insane bigot. Her so-called “identity” and “values” are “maniac” and “racism” respectively.
If @SpeakerPelosi was the minority leader, she would pull every identity politics trick in the book to defend her member.
White, Woman, Wife, Mother, Christian, Conservative, Business Owner
These are the reasons they don’t want me on Ed & Labor.
It’s my identity & my values.
