Trump’s aides made him remove childish insult about McConnell’s physical appearance from his statement

Unwilling or unable to surrender the mantle of pettiest creature in politics, disgraced ex-president Donald Trump released a lengthy statement today attacking Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

While the two men would never have been described as bosom friends they cooperated closely during the four disastrous years that Trump was in the White House to stuff the judiciary with reactionary lunatics and to give massive tax handouts to the super-rich. The aesthetics of their politics may have differed but their goals were closely aligned.

Once Trump was ousted by Joe Biden, McConnell decided to turn against him rhetorically. He voted to acquit Trump in his recent impeachment trial but then proceeded to denounce him for the “disgraceful dereliction of duty” that resulted in the January 6th insurrection. McConnell was unwilling to stand up to Trump in any meaningful way and now apparently wants to be remembered as a brave defender of the Republic. It was only a matter of time before the infamously narcissistic Trump hit back.

In his statement, the former president decries McConnell’s leadership of the GOP and accuses him of representing “status quo policies” and lacking “political insight, wisdom, skill, and personality.” He goes on to brag about the 2020 election and the electoral gains made by the Republican Party under his leadership while blaming McConnell for Georgia flipping blue.

Still clinging to the lies off mass voter fraud and election tampering which triggered the insurrection last month, Trump attacked Georgia’s Governor Brian Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffesnperger, both of whom are Republicans, for failing to protect “Election Integrity.”

Add your name to call on prosecutors to ARREST DONALD TRUMP for his crimes!

Fueled by obvious insecurities and a deeply damaged psyche, the letter mocks McConnell for begging for Trump’s support and states that the senator would have lost his reelection bid were it not for Trump’s endorsement.

“Mitch is a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack,” Trump says, landing on an accurate description for once.

He then threatens to back primary challengers who will support his inane “America First” platform, which really just amounts to xenophobia wed with weaponized ignorance. The statement slips back into more of Trump’s usual boilerplate braggadocio before concluding with a call for Americans to cast off “third rate ‘leaders'” which is ironically exactly what we did when we voted him out of office.

According to Politico, someone with knowledge of the lead-up to the statement release said it could have ended up far meaner. One early draft mocked McConnell for having multiple chins, an interesting line of attack coming from Donald Trump — a man whose physique is less than impressive.

“There was also a lot of repetitive stuff and definitely something about him having too many chins but not enough smarts,” the individual revealed.

The New York Times reports that a “person close to the former president” described a first draft that was “more incendiary.” Another revealed that Trump originally planned to give a press conference but aides were worried he would end up going off script and lobbing cruder, harsher insults at McConnell. Frankly, these two vile men deserve each other and it’s fitting that their legacies will be forever entwined in the history books.
