Ocasio-Cortez and George Takei team up to rip Ted Cruz over Cancun scandal
With the Senate in recess after the debacle of the acquittal of Donald Trump in his second impeachment trial, the biggest political news emerging from Congress today has been Senator Ted Cruz’s ill-advised decision to take his family on a vacation in Cancun while his home state of Texas was suffering from completely avoidable power outages and water supply issues due to a worse than usual winter storm.
Social media was full of posts today attacking the seditious senator for a change for something other than his support for Trump’s “big lie” that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him by massive election fraud and for his assistance in riling up the violent mob that marched on his workplace on January 6th.
Actor/activist George Takei — Sulu on the original Star Trek series — reacted to the news of Cruz’s tropical escape by posting a sarcastic comment on Twitter, jokingly blaming progressive firebrand Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for booking the flight for the Texas Senator and mocking the finger-pointing proclivities of beleaguered Republicans.
In fairness, @AOC booked him the flight to Cancun. It’s really her fault.

For her part, Representative Ocasio-Cortez — who has been known to engage with the Texas senator in an ongoing Twitter feud — took the satiric false accusation in good humor, replying to the actor’s tweet by vociferously denying any involvement in Cruz’s vacation plans whatsoever and offering a scenario in which Cruz could have taken his sojourn to the warm sandy beaches of Mexico without interruption.

AOC’s tweet triggered some pertinent responses of its own as people continued to fume over the elitist privilege that the Texas senator displayed with his condemnable behavior.

Add your name to call on prosecutors to ARREST DONALD TRUMP for his crimes!

I wouldn't put it past the GOP to be mad if she left right now, and scream at her that she should have helped in the southern states! Even though she isn't our representative. I'd give anything to have @AOC as a Texas senator ❤❤❤

Who started the rumor that Ted Cruz was wearing this jacket as he left for Cancun? pic.twitter.com/1haiKJRWN8

Judging from these responses, it seems like Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez has the upper hand in this round of the ongoing social media battle with Ted Cruz, although it’s doubtful that many people expected that to turn out any differently.
Senator Cruz is reportedly on his way back to Texas, having cut short his planned stay through Saturday after the uproar over his public relations debacle.
Let’s hope that the senator remembered to pack his mittens and winter coat along with his swimsuit when he packed to go to Cancun.
He’s going to need them.
