Southwest Airlines pilot caught on hot mic ranting about “f*cking liberals”
A Southwest Airlines pilot has gone viral for all the wrong reasons after a hot mic recording of him ranting about how much he hates liberals hit the web. It’s perhaps become passé to point out how deeply polarized this nation has become—a trend that was only exacerbated and accelerated by the election of the emphatically partisan Trump—but it’s still striking to hear what some conservatives say about us when they believe their remarks will stay between them and their friends.
SFGATE confirmed with Southwest that the man on the expletive filled recording is indeed a pilot for the airline and released the kind of boilerplate corporate speak we’ve come to expect after incidents like this.
“Our corporate Culture is built on a tenet of treating others with concern and dignity and the comments are inconsistent with the professional behavior and overall respect that we require from our Employees. This situation was an isolated incident involving a single Employee and not representative of the nearly 60,000 hardworking, respectful People of Southwest Airlines,” said Southwest.

In the leaked audio, the pilot rants about San Francisco and the “liberal f*cks” who live there. He seemed to be relying on the low effort stereotypes peddled by places like Fox News because he also complained that the “f*cking weirdos” who live in San Franciscio also “probably” drive “f*cking Hyundais.” Why any grown man would possibly care about what kind of vehicle someone else drives is anyone’s guess, but the pilot seems to have some deeply felt, warped views of masculinity.
Someone in the control tower tried to warn him that he was being captured on a hot mic but he plowed ahead, stating that “you don’t have balls unless you’re f*cking rolling coal,” a reference to the truly asinine practice of modifying diesel engines, usually on a truck, so that the exhaust billows thick smoke. In other words, it’s exactly the kind of stupid thing a conservative would find important and worthwhile.
It’s unclear what will become of the pilot, but some kind of reprimanding certainly seems in order. Give the recording a listen below.
