FOX host trashes “puritanical” liberals over Matt Gaetz sex scandal on Easter Sunday

It comes as a surprise to absolutely nobody that Donald Trump’s most devoted bootlicker in Congress, Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida, has been exposed as a misogynistic sex pest who shared nude photographs in the Capitol building and allegedly had an inappropriate sexual relationship with an underage girl.

Neither is it surprising to see the right-wing propaganda machine immediately leaping to his defense, despite the obvious violation of the “family values” that Republicans like Gaetz pretend to champion. But it is truly breathtaking to see FOX pundits dismiss the criticisms of Gaetz’s appalling behavior as “puritanical” on Easter Sunday, of all days.

FOX Nation host Kat Timpf joined the “Spin Cycle” show in order to give her take on the Gaetz scandal — which raised many an eyebrow due to its flagrant hypocrisy.

“It’s got sex, it’s got drugs, it has Matt Gaetz, who is a very polarizing figure and he’s a very staunch supporter of Donald Trump so people either really love him or they really hate him,” says Timpf, implying that this polarization is responsible for the ferocity of the scandal instead of the violation of statutory rape laws by an elected member of Congress.

“But I think it’s been really interesting… If buying expensive gifts for women and sleeping with them — that isn’t illegal. We still need to figure out exactly, there are receipts coming in, we still need to figure out more about what happened…But it’s been interesting to see some in the media on the left who normally wouldn’t be so puritanical about something like that, being very puritanical and not just look at following the facts of it. Which again, it’s bizarre so it’s hard to know what those are” finished Timpf.

From start to finish, Timpf’s defense of Gaetz deliberately misrepresents the criticism aimed at Gaetz and the narrative around the scandal entirely. Thanks to self-righteous patriarchal puritans like Matt Gaetz, prostitution is actually illegal, putting the thousands of women who choose or are forced into sex work at risk of violence, rape, and murder at the hands of both their johns and the police themselves.

But it’s not the consensual transactional sex that people are angry about; it’s Gaetz’s implicit endorsement of the “QAnon” conspiracy theory and its accompanying obsession of child sex traffickers while himself allegedly engaging in sexual relations with underage girls, which is also illegal.

The idea that the “left” is being unfairly puritanical about Gaetz’s behavior is ridiculous, considering that the right-wing propaganda machine spent an entire week last month complaining that Cardi B’s Grammy performance was “toO sExuAl.” Time and time again, the GOP proves that nothing they say or do has any meaning beyond being cheap political theater used to disguise their insatiable lust for power, and we need to stop taking them seriously as a participant in American politics.
