Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is a woman known for her, shall we say, adversarial relationship with reality. Her support of the QAnon conspiracy—the belief that Democrats are secretly abusing and devouring children in Satanic rituals—has been well-documented as has her support of numerous other deranged theories. She is a woman committed to propagating the most pernicious forms of misinformation and so far it’s impossible to tell if she’s simply a cynical liar or if she truly believes the filth that regularly spews forth from her mouth.
Earlier today, Greene took to Twitter with a message that was unbelievable even by her knuckle-dragging standards. She wrote that “taxpayer dollars” should never be “used to buy aborted baby body parts.” Greene insisted that the Biden administration would “love to spend big on” these body parts and that the process should be “ended immediately.”
“The American people would be outraged if they knew this was happening with their hard earned dollars,” Greene added. One imagines that, yes, the American people would be outraged if the U.S. government was spending tax money on dismembered infants. The American people would be also outraged if the government was using tax dollars to mass murder kittens, or to stitch together a Frankenstein’s monster in the bowls of the White House, or any number of other weird hypothetical situations. Thankfully they’re not doing any of these things.
Where to begin with this insanity? Obviously, the United States government is not buying up aborted baby parts en masse. It’s not even clear where this idea came from. Perhaps Greene saw a meme on some conspiracy theory Facebook page or maybe it came to her in a fever dream. Most likely, she was referring to a now-debunked video that alleged to show Planned Parenthood illegally selling off fetal tissue (PP eventually won a $2 million lawsuit over the claims).
In any case, this is a disgusting allegation from Greene and her decision to not fully explain her conspiracy theory by detailing what the body parts would supposedly be used for and why the Biden administration might want them is intentional. By keeping it vague, she’s inviting QAnon adherents and similar lunatics to fill in the gaps. They can point to this tweet as proof that the Democratic administration is engaged in abominable, Satanic practices. This woman is a threat to our democracy and if Georgia doesn’t vote her out soon we’ll all be forced to pay the consequences.
