When former Trump administration officials return to the private sector, some simply go for the fattest paycheck they can find, assuming that they can even get a job offer.
Others find work doing essentially the same thing they did for the former president, just at much higher salaries than the government would ever be willing to pay.
Count former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany among this latter group.
McEnany went from spreading lies and misinformation on behalf of Donald Trump and the Republican Party to performing the exact same duties for Fox News in a match that was seemingly anointed by whichever demi-god rules over the propaganda industry.
With the change in the hands upon the levers of power in Washington DC, the situation was ripe for McEnany to revert to insurgent tactics as she attacks the Biden administration from the sidelines while dwelling in the fortress of manipulative media that is Fox News.
The situation is also ripe for a massive amount of hypocrisy as McEnany attacks Biden for doing things that her former boss indulged in on an almost daily basis.
One had to suppress laughter today when the Fox News host lambasted President Biden for offering his opinion on the trial of Officer Derek Chauvin, the cop who pressed his knee into George Floyd’s neck until the back man’s life slipped away.
Biden had waited until the jury in the trial had been sequestered before saying that he was praying for the jurors to make the “right verdict” in the murder trial.
Despite the long and shameful record of Donald Trump tweeting his unwanted analysis of current events while in the bully pulpit of the White House — something that McEnany was forced to defend on a near-daily basis in her old job — Biden’s expression of his opinion in this particular case threw McEnany into high dudgeon.
“I’m glad that he at least waited until the jury was sequestered,” McEnany said. “But I think that the country is such a tinderbox right now, especially Minneapolis. There’s so much hurt, so much pain.”
“And I think it’s the role of the president of the United States to stay back, to not inflame the tensions,” she continued. “I think he should have just reserved comment and said he’s praying for the family as we all are.”
Who knows how many gallons of morning coffee were expelled from the mouths of any thoughtful viewers in spit takes as McEnany uttered those astonishing words.
This is, after all, the woman who was forced to defend Trump’s comments excusing Kyle Rittenhouse who deliberately shot and killed two innocent protestors at a BLM protest in Wisconsin last summer.
“He was trying to get away from them, I guess, it looks like,” Trump said. “I guess he was in very big trouble. He probably would have been killed,” he speculated, as if it were an excuse for murder.
Unfortunately, pointing out the hypocrisy emanating from right-wing partisans is more than a full-time job for any one person.
When truth becomes a malleable commodity to be bent for one’s own nefarious purposes rather than a sacred principle, words cease to have real meanings, and confusion reigns.
That’s just the way that the GOP likes it.
The better to brainwash you, my pretty ones.
