Horrified reporter exposes “openly bloodlusty carnival” at pro-Trump conference

There is very little sanity left in the Republican Party. After four years of Donald Trump’s racism, fearmongering, and conspiracy theorizing the GOP finds itself infested with bigots carrying around beliefs that would have been considered completely fringe not long ago. The ascendancy of the QAnon movement—whose adherents insist that the Democratic Party is secretly run by Satanists who sexually abuse and devour children to prolong their own lifespans—is just a symptom of a much deeper problem. Many conservatives in this country have completely untethered themselves from reality.

In a new episode of The Daily Beast’s “Fever Dreams” podcast, reporter Will Sommer recounted his trip to the bizarre Health and Freedom Conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The pro-Trump event was a who’s who of MAGA hacks and some of the deranged things they spewed—comfortable as they were surrounded by like-minded individuals—were truly staggering.

“[The Health and Freedom Conference was a] sort of a confluence of COVID denialism, QAnon, evangelical Christianity, all this kind of stuff, gathering outside of Tulsa, 4,500 people. They were ready to throw down and talk about how much they love both Trump and QAnon, no masks,” Summer told the podcast’s co-host Asawin Suebsaeng, who described the event as an “openly bloodlusty carnival.”

Among the lunatic luminaries featured was actor Jim Caviezel, who starred as Jesus in Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ. Rather than show up in person, Caviezel appeared via Zoom and casually mentioned how he has always been interested in exposing the harvesting of adrenochrome from children — a far-right conspiracy theory that postulates the world’s elites are killing children to get their hands on a magical substance that allows them to live longer.

“There’s a sense from these people that QAnon is very real and, most importantly, what they’ve learned from QAnon is real and that’s adrenochrome, that’s the torturing of children,” said Sommer when asked what it was like experiencing the conference.

Trumpworld lawyer Lin Wood was also in attendance, along with disgraced former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn. Sydney Powell recorded a video for the guests. Such people are generally considered fringe but there were also mainstream Republicans mingling, including the Chairman of the Oklahoma Republican Party.

While addressing the crowd of faithful, Wood went on and on about people “torturing children” and how “treason” must be punished by firing squad. The suggestion that political enemies would be executed was met with a “standing ovation.” At another point in the conference, Sommer heard two people discussing a theory that the ship that got wedged into the Suez Canal was actually loaded up with children intended for Hillary Clinton’s dinner table.

It’s easy to laugh at these people and their insane ideas, but it’s imperative that we take them seriously as a threat. These people vote, they have influence in the Republican Party, and if we don’t continue showing up at the ballot box to defeat them our country could soon be ruled by maniacs.
