Dem caucus leader demands ethics probe into Marjorie Taylor Greene over her AOC ambush

After several Republican congressional representatives tried to undermine the violence that took place during the January 6th insurrection at the Capitol building by characterizing the rioters as merely tourists taking in the sites and Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) screamed threateningly at Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the hallways of Congress, the chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, Congressman  Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) rose to describe the Republican Party as “a full-blown cult.”

Appearing on CNN’s New Day, Rep. Jeffries characterized the GOP’s efforts to rewrite such recent history of the violence that was broadcast all over the planet as “shocking” and labeled his Republican colleagues as “out of control.”

Jeffries was amazed that GOP lawmakers can spout platitudes about how “Blue lives matter” and espouse support for law enforcement while simultaneously denying the evidence that groups of out-of-control Trump fanatics were physically assaulting Capitol Police officers with flagpoles, bear spray, and any other implement they could get their hands on during the invasion of the Capitol premises, seriously injuring more than 150 law enforcement personnel.

“House Republicans have definitively become a full-blown cult. They have chosen to place Party over patriotism. They have chosen the big lie over the rule of law. They’ve chosen autocracy over democracy,” Jeffries said, referring to the GOP failure to properly admit that the 2020 election was not “stolen” from Donald Trump.

Turning his attention to the contretemps between the queen of QAnon, Rep. Greene, and the progressive standard-bearer, AOC, Jeffries insisted that the House Ethics Committee investigate the harassing incident that the Democratic Caucus leader labeled as “stalking.”

“Well she is certainly engaged in threatening behavior, and I think ultimately this is something that may have to be evaluated by the Ethics Committee,” Jeffries said.  ”

“Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez has shown tremendous restraint and should be commended in that regard because it appears that the so-called congresswoman from Georgia is stalking her,” he continued.

Hopefully, the ethics committee will take up the matter quickly and sanction the Georgia congresswoman for her bad behavior, although since Rep. Greene has already had all of her committee assignments stripped because of her deranged behavior towards survivors of the Parkland High School shootings prior to being elected to Congress, it’s unclear what penalty short of expulsion from the House of Representatives would be effective in curbing her dangerously threatening behavior.

It’s clear that the GOP has become more of a cult devoted to worshiping their fallen leader, Donald Trump, as Congressman Jeffries suggests, than a responsible and rational opposition party.

With more moderate Republicans now threatening to leave the party, it remains to be seen if the GOP can survive in its current form much longer if they continue to pay fealty to their disgraced leader.

For many people to the left of neo-Nazis and Proud Boys, the reaction is likely to be “good riddance.”
