Trump launches damaging broadside against “weak” and “stupid” Republicans in new interview

Voting him out of office has not been enough to rid us of Donald Trump. He remains one of the most powerful figures in the Republican Party and even without his Twitter and Facebook platforms he has found a way to reach his base by releasing sporadic—and reliably unhinged—statements, usually bashing his political enemies, praising himself, or whining about imagined grievances.

In a new interview with One America News Network (OANN), the media outlet that has somehow managed to carve out a place to the right of Fox News, the disgraced former president launched a broadside against members of his own party over what he perceives as a failure to adequately boost his Big Lie.

“That’s all people ask me. They say ‘what’s going on in Arizona?'” Trump said to far-right reporter Chanel Rion, referring to the election audit in Arizona — which on Tuesday discovered that no election data had been destroyed or tampered with, destroying one of MAGA world’s favorite conspiracy theories.

“They want to talk about the election fraud. The weak Republicans don’t want to talk about it,” Trump went on. “The weak or stupid or RINOs [Republican in name only], call them whatever you want, and yet the Republican voter that’s what they want to hear.”

“The Republican voter wants the story. The weak Republican politician doesn’t want to talk about this story,” Trump added.

The reason Republican politicians don’t want to talk about this topic is that it’s so embarrassing. Every rational person knows by now that there’s no truth to the election fraud lies. Whining about it constantly might be a good strategy for Trump who doesn’t have to worry about midterms, but for the rest of the party belaboring 2020 does nothing but sink the GOP in the eyes of independent voters.

At this point, it’s safe to assume that Donald Trump will never admit that he was soundly defeated in 2020. His pride demands that he insist he won and his future political plans, whatever they might be, are firmly rooted in propagating this myth. The fact that so many Republican voters have fallen for this lie, peddled by a lifelong pathological liar, is a damning indictment of the party as a whole.
