“Evil lunacy” — Liz Cheney burns Rep. Taylor Greene for her Holocaust comparisons

Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-WY) may have been booted from her leadership position in the House of Representatives by her fellow Republicans, but she has not been cowed into staying quiet about the lunatic behavior of some of her even more extremist right-wing colleagues.

After Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) went on one of the slew of new ultra-right media outlets that have sprung up in the wake of Donald Trump’s slander of the mainstream press as “fake news” to compare House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s policy of requiring masks on the House floor to the Holocaust and called Pelosi “mentally ill,” Rep. Cheney tweeted incredulously about Greene’s insane outburst, calling it “evil lunacy.”

While Cheney’s own political views may be anathema to most progressives, when faced with Greene’s reprehensible remarks, the Wyoming lawmaker at least recognizes when one of her own party has crossed the line from the mere distasteful selfishness that characterizes the typical GOP agenda to the realm of “quick, call the attendants with the straight jacket.”

Cheney’s continued outspokenness against the Trumpiest faction of the Republican Party — after her petulant ouster from party leadership for her refusal to accept the “Big Lie” that electoral malfeasance was the cause of President Biden’s landslide victory rather than American voters’ repudiation of Trump’s dismal legacy of incompetence, racism, and misanthropy — may be leading her congressional colleagues to regret voting to remove her from leadership.

With nothing left to lose — at least until the Wyoming primaries — Congresswoman Cheney is now the unofficial leader of the internal resistance by old school, establishment Republicans in the GOP’s internecine warfare for future control of the party.

While Democrats may at least admire Cheney for being one of the few Republicans who seem at least partially grounded in reality, many may hope that her fight to have semi-reasonable people in the GOP regain control and influence in the fracturing party eventually fails since a radicalized party dominated by far-right extremists is certainly less likely to attract a winning majority in most regions of this country and make it easier for Democrats to retain their Senate majorities.

In the meantime. however, Congresswoman Cheney is certainly welcome to join the pile on that Rep. Taylor Greene faces after each daily dump of “evil lunacy” that she makes.
