It’s always been difficult to distinguish between whether or not Donald Trump actually believes the ridiculous things he says or whether it’s all a dog-and-pony show to keep his supporters engaged and the spotlight trained on him at all times.
However, his most recent plunge into fantastic delusion appears to be very, very real. Last weekend, New York Times star reporter Maggie Haberman reported Trump has been telling people that he expects to be “reinstated” to the presidency sometime in August after the election “audits” somehow overturn the results of the 2020 election.
The “audit” in Arizona seems to be the president’s primary source of hope, yet that too is nothing but an absurd exercise in cope from Trump diehards. A former DHS official trashed the effort to investigate the votes in Maricopa county as “performance art,” “a clown show,” and “a waste of taxpayer money” in an interview with NPR, making it clear that the latest Trump conspiracy is just as baseless, lazy, and clumsy as the last dozen have been.
But it appears this is more than just a pipe dream to the decaying sexual predator. Charles Cooke at right-wing propaganda rag the National Review reported this afternoon that he genuinely believes that he will be “reinstated” as president — and that defeated GOP Senators McSally and Perdue will also be reinstated with him.

It’s hard to know what’s scarier; the fact that someone who believes this was the President of the United States for FOUR YEARS or the fact that there are still so many people actively working to undermine our democracy and manifest the insane rantings of a spoiled socialite and failed blogger into reality.
