Trump throws Pence under the bus and says he’s “disappointed” that he certified Biden’s win

In the long run, Donald Trump’s Big Lie that the election was illegally stolen from him by Joe Biden could prove to be the most damaging part of his legacy. Because his ego won’t allow him to admit that the American people rejected him at the ballot box, Trump has decided to convince a large swath of the electorate that our democracy itself is illegitimate. It’s impossible to know what the long-term effects of this manufactured reality will be, but it will almost certainly ensure that future elections are less stable.

In a new interview with Real America’s Voice host David Body, Trump peddled more of the same lies about the election and said that he is “disappointed” that former Vice President Mike Pence certified Biden’s victory in 2020. Many within the MAGA movement have soured on Pence and during a recent appearance at a conservative conference he was booed and condemned as a “traitor.”

Brody told the former president that he doesn’t believe MAGA followers will ever “forgive” Pence.

“What’s your take on Mike Pence and what’s the relationship like?” asked Brody.

“Well, I’ve always liked Mike and I’m very disappointed that he didn’t send it back to the legislatures. When you have more votes than you have voters in some cases, and when you have the kind of things that were known in many cases, they were known then,” said Trump. “But they’re certainly getting better and better known now.”

“I was disappointed that he didn’t send it back,” Trump went on. “I felt that he had the right to send it back. He should have sent it back. That’s my opinion.”

Showcasing the delusion that has defined his entire public persona for the past, he insisted that America might have “a different president right now” if Pence had done as Trump wanted and refused to certify the election.

There is, of course, no truth to Trump’s claims, and Pence, as horrible as he is in many ways, did the right thing in this case.  That said, this attack from Trump and the broader MAGA world can be seen as something of a karmic justice. Pence chose to align himself with a deeply cruel, evil man because he wanted the powers of the vice presidency. He’s now reaping what he sowed.
