On Thursday, former New York Mayor and ex-president Trump’s former election-time consigliere Rudy Giuliani was disbarred by the New York Bar Association, stripping the 77-year-old of his ability to take point on Donald Trump’s seemingly endless and increasingly ridiculous attempts to sue his way back into the presidency.
It was long overdue; before attempting to overturn the legitimate results of the 2020 election based on outrageously tenuous legal complaints, Giuliani spearheaded the Trump administration’s efforts to bully the Ukrainian government into opening a sham investigation into President Biden’s son Hunter, violating several federal laws along the way and ultimately leading to Trump’s first impeachment.
Donald Trump himself, usually quick to discard an accomplice once they are no longer useful to him, issued a surprising defense of Giuliani on Thursday evening, comparing him to the lawyers who took down gangster Al Capone during Prohibition.
“The greatest Mayor in the history of New York City, the Eliot Ness of his generation, one of the greatest crime fighters our Country has ever known, and this is what the Radical Left does to him!” whined Trump in a statement. “Can you believe that New York wants to strip Rudy Giuliani, a great American Patriot, of his law license because he has been fighting what has already been proven to be a Fraudulent Election?”
Rudy Giuliani became Mayor of New York after running an astonishingly racist campaign in which, as a candidate, Giuliani incited a racist riot of drunk white cops outside the office the then-Mayor of New York David Dinkins’ office. A journalist recalled seeing that “one black member of the city council was physically blocked from crossing the street by a drunk cop. Another was trapped in her car as cops rocked it back and forth. Both were bombarded with racist epithets.” An NYPD cop was heard screaming “now you got a n****r right inside City Hall. How do you like that? A n****r mayor!”
Much of that was forgotten in the wake of the September 11th terror attacks, which Giuliani successfully capitalized on and made himself out to be America’s Mayor. But he was always a scumbag, and he’ll always be a scumbag. His efforts to dismantle our democracy on behalf of Donald Trump would be much more alarming if he wasn’t such a buffoon.
He’ll be remembered not by the image of him standing in the wreckage of the World Trade Center but by the clip of him blowing his snot into his handkerchief and then mopping the leaking makeup off his face with it.
