Trump unleashes lengthy, insult-laden screed on Bill Barr after he denies his “bullsh*t”

Donald Trump released an incredibly lengthy (by his standards) statement attacking his former Attorney General William Barr today. The former president’s sudden attack was likely prompted by a series of interviews with Barr published by The Atlantic yesterday.

In the interviews, Barr seems to be trying to rehabilitate his image after completely destroying his credibility while working for Trump. He attempts to lionize his refusal in December to endorse then-president Trump’s lies about election fraud — a refusal that was the bare minimum he could have done and not some grand show of courage as he would have us believe. Perhaps notably, he dismisses Trump’s election fraud claims as “bullshit” in the interviews, a choice of word that likely infuriated the former president.

In his statement, Trump accuses Barr of failing to investigate the nonexistent election fraud and insists that he “really let down the American people.” He whines that Barr refused to do anything about the debunked right-wing conspiracy theory about “ballot stuffing” in Georgia and that he didn’t do enough to investigate alleged corruption in the Obama administration. They’re all complaints we’ve heard before from Trump and every time he reheats them like this it becomes apparent he’s run out of new talking points.

The statement goes on to slam Barr for allowing the “crazed Radical Left to succeed” and says Barr and other RINOS (Republicans In Name Only) are being exploited to convince people the election was legitimate. Trump alludes to “incredible facts” that show it was in fact illegitimate despite the reality that no such facts exist. If they did, Trump’s efforts to overturn the election wouldn’t have been thrown out of court again and again.

“He came in with a semi-bang and left with a whimper,” Trump says of his former attorney general. He proceeds to rattle off more debunked conspiracy theories about the election in a blatant attempt to shovel so much false information that the reader becomes convinced that there must be some truth to his lies.

Still going, Trump asks why if Barr “felt this way” he wrote nice things about the Trump administration in the final letter he wrote to Trump himself.

Referencing a part of The Atlantic piece that claims Mitch McConnell privately asked Barr to push back against the election fraud misinformation, Trump refers to the former Senate Majority Leader as “another beauty” and says he pressured Barr to “tell lies about the election.” These “lies” are of course the truth and Trump himself is the one telling lies about the election. Both Barr and McConnell are referred to as “spineless RINOS” in the statement.

“Bill Barr was a disappointment in every sense of the word. Besides which, Barr, who was Attorney General (lawyer) shouldn’t be speaking about the President,” Trump writes in his concluding paragraph.

“Instead of doing his job, he did the opposite and told people within the Justice Department not to investigate the election,” Trump continues. “Just like he did with the Mueller report and the cover up of Crooked Hillary and RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA, they don’t want to investigate the real facts. Bill Barr’s weakness helped facilitate the cover up of the Crime of the Century, the Rigged 2020 Presidential Election!”
