Two of the East coast’s most notorious right-wing extremist legislators are finding that they are not getting such a warm welcome on the West coast.
Representatives Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-CA) have been planning on bringing one of their controversial “America First” rallies — named after a slogan originally used by Nazi sympathizers opposed to our nation’s entry into World War II to fight fascism — to California to further spread their deplorable message of bigotry and selfishness.
Their event organizers had secured a venue to hold the event in Laguna Hills, a town in the traditionally arch-conservative Orange County section of the state, and had already started selling tickets to the event designed to raise campaign contributions to advance their despicable agenda.
Then, however, the venue, the Pacific Hills Banquet & Event Center, discovered exactly who would be speaking at the event.
With Gaetz’s and Greene’s radical reputations preceding their physical arrival, the venue quickly canceled the booking in horror.
“We just want to stay clear of that,” Pacific Hills Banquet & Event Center general manager Javad Mirtavoosi told The Orange County Register.
“As soon as we found out who the speakers were we immediately canceled it. We just thought it would be best for our facility to cancel,” he stated.
It’s not a surprising decision given the backgrounds of the two lawmakers — Gaetz with the allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor hanging over his head, and Greene having been stripped of all of her committee assignments because of her extremist views and her pattern of harassment of people who don’t share them.
Moreover, Gaetz and Greene are the same people who attempted to launch an “America First” caucus in Congress dedicated to promoting “uniquely Anglo-Saxon political traditions,” apparently the latest right-wing dog whistle term for White nationalism.
While Pacific Hills Banquet & Event Center may have wisely canceled a booking that would besmirch their reputation, Gaetz and Greene are reportedly still scrambling to find another place to hold their rally, one preferably without any political or moral scruples.
“We’re very close to securing a location that will proudly host our America First Rally with Congresswoman Greene and Congressman Gaetz,” said Greene campaign spokesperson Nick Dyer.
Let’s hope that the other event halls in the area have as much sense as Pacific Hills Banquet & Event Center and keep the pair of radical lawmakers from finding a place to promulgate their pernicious ideology.
