Jen Psaki scolds Fox reporter like a little boy for calling voting rights struggle “funny”

It’s no exaggeration to say that Republican efforts to pass a wave of voter repression laws all across the United States represent a grave collective threat to the very foundations of our democracy. Democrats are meanwhile working to pass voting rights legislation to strengthen and expand the franchise and President Biden has gone so far as to call the struggle to defend voting rights “the most significant test of our democracy since the Civil War.”

Recognizing the threat these GOP anti-voting laws pose to our Republic, a group of over 50 Democratic state legislators from Texas escaped to Washington D.C. on Monday in the hopes of denying the Texan House of Representatives the quorum needed to vote on a Draconian Republican bill that would forbid 24-hour polling places and put in place an ID requirement for mail-in voting. The obvious goal of the legislation is to depress voter turnout and maintain Republican control of the state.

Today, Fox News’s Peter Doocy, a reliable mouthpiece for the most dishonest conservative talking points, asked White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki about the Texas Democrats.

Add your name to demand Congress raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour!

“Do you know of any examples from his thirty-six years in the Senate that Joe Biden just hopped on a train and left town to avoid a vote that he knew he was going to lose?” asked Doocy.

“Welcome back,” Psaki replied with a laugh, subtly drawing attention to the fact that Doocy regularly asks loaded questions. “Look, I think that the president’s view is that these Texas legislators were making a statement through action in opposition to efforts in their state to oppose restrictions on people’s fundamental rights and their rights to vote in their state. That is why they departed. The vice president met with these legislators yesterday and the president certainly applauds their actions and their outspoken opposition to efforts to put in place restrictive measures in their state.”

“And maybe it is funny to think about it that way but the president is talking about this as the most serious assault on our democracy since the Civil War,” said Doocy.

“I don’t think anything about this is funny,” responded Psaki. “I think what is important to note though here is that there are twenty-eight states including Texas where there are laws in place or in process to make it harder to vote and it requires bold action. It requires bold voices to speak out against that and make sure people understand their rights. That’s exactly what’s happening.”

As usual, Psaki is spot on. Watch below.
