In a relatively short amount of time Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has rocketed to the top of the GOP pile of psychopaths, perverts, and fascists to seize the mantle of the most deranged member of Congress. The QAnon Congresswoman has not once struck a reasonable note since she was sworn into office and regularly engages in the kind of fringe conspiracy theorists that used to be relegated to the basements of tinfoil hat-wearing weirdos.
Greene has supported the Big Lie that Trump won the election, spread misinformation about COVID-19, and defended the January 6th insurrectionists. If there’s an issue, you can bet Greene is on the wrong side of it. So it should come as no surprise that she, like many other Republican elected officials, is hellbent on opposing the return of mask mandates — a measure that is only becoming necessary again because so many Republicans refuse to get vaccinated.
Today, Greene tweeted disparagingly about masks. She said that members of the Senate aren’t wearing “paper napkins and jock straps on their faces” even though they are “the oldest in American history” and have an average age of 63. Her argument seems to be that if the elderly men and women of the Senate aren’t worried about wearing masks, neither should the House of Representatives. Last night, it was announced that the House would be resuming mandates in response to the CDC advisory that Americans wear masks indoors.
Greene’s tweet quickly turned nasty as she stated that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is “way older” than 63 and is “somewhere close to 90” and “older than dirt.” Pelosi is 81 years old and Greene’s insults are a disgusting example of ageism as well as the latest reminder that Greene has absolutely no decency. She’s a crude political opportunist who will spew whatever filth pops into her head if she believes the MAGA base will respond well to it.
The irony is that at 47 years old, Greene is far less coherent, informed, and frankly intelligent than a woman who is almost twice her age. Pelosi shouldn’t dignify her with so much as a passing thought.
