Jen Psaki bats aside Fox Reporter’s loaded question to dunk beautifully on Trump

Seemingly every time that White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki gets up to the podium for one of her press briefings Fox News’s Peter Doocy tries to land some kind of gotcha question. He comes armed with the latest round of right-wing talking points and does his very best (which admittedly isn’t very good) to pull some kind of damaging sound bite out of Psaki. His goal is rarely to inform, his goal is to attack.

Today, Doocy once again came at Psaki with a barrage of conservative-leaning questions. He started by asking if the administration supports New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s decision to ban the unvaccinated from going to indoor restaurants, gyms, and shows. Psaki answered that the White House supports the efforts made by localities to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Failing to extract any rage-bait for Fox’s consumers with the first question, Doocy then asked if President’s Biden invitation for New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to visit the White House for the next Governors’ Conference still stands given the new state attorney general’s report which found that the governor sexually harassed numerous women. Doocy was clearly attempting to tie President Biden to Cuomo’s scandal, a cheap ploy that Psaki dismantled by simply stating that Biden will speak his views on the topic later today.

Doocy then went for another question.

“Okay and then the Justice Department recently drafted civil rights investigation into Governor Cuomo’s handling of the COVID nursing home deaths,” said Doocy. “Does the administration want the Justice Department to initiate a civil rights investigation into these harassment allegations revealed today?”

“We do something new here that feels foreign from the last four years and allow the Justice Department to act independently on investigations,” responded Psaki, throwing obvious shade at the way President Trump repeatedly tried to interfere at the DOJ and tried to treat it as his own personal attack force. Thankfully we now have a president who understands the value of an independent Justice Department.
