File this story under “schadenfreude.”

As the complete extent of Donald Trump’s criminality has yet to be revealed, those nuggets that have risen to the surface have captivated that portion of the American public who wish to see the corrupt ex-president face accountability for a life of flouting the law that he seems to believe only applies to ordinary Americans.

Those folks will be pleased to hear about the latest legal setback that the former guy has suffered in a Chicago lawsuit concerning that city’s Trump International Hotel & Tower, which was found to have been illegally pumping nearly 20 million gallons of water out of and back into the Chicago River without a valid permit, according to an article at TheRealDeal.com, a website dedicated to real estate news in the Windy City.

The pumping of the water, which was used in the building’s heating and cooling systems, required the Trump Organization to obtain official permission from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to certify that the diversion of such a massive amount of H20 wouldn’t affect the lives of the river’s aquatic population and kill off or reduce the fish population.

Strangely, up until the first year of Trump’s presidency, his Chicago property actually had the proper permit to use the river water in its physical plant but inexplicably failed to renew that permit once Trump took office.

Adding insult to injury, after the state judge ruled that the water had been used illegally and that the Trump Organization could now be responsible for up to $12 million in fines, the building’s insurer, Continental Casualty, is now refusing to cover any of the fines stemming from the violations of Illinois law.

It may be highly unlikely that this development is making Donald Trump and his family business particularly happy, but the folks on social media sure got a kick out of it, judging from their reaction to a tweet that announced the news.

Hopefully, the fine from the Illinois EPA will be just the least of Donald Trump’s legal worries in the year ahead as state prosecutors in New York and Georgia are actively investigating many of his other numerous transgressions.

Plus, there are the potential consequences from whatever is uncovered at the federal level by the House select committee investigating the January 6th insurrection at the Capitol Building.

It couldn’t happen to a more deserving villain.
