Matt Gaetz elopes in secret Catalina ceremony, and Twitter sends the happy couple dubious wishes

Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) may be under the threat of indictment for transporting a minor across state lines for the purposes of unlawful carnal knowledge, but, apparently, that fact wasn’t enough to deter his fiancé, Ginger Luckey, from agreeing to elope with him and get married at a small private ceremony on Catalina Island in the bride’s native California.

With Sergio Gor, a former staffer for Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), officiating before a small crowd that included the bride’s brother and his wife and Gaetz’s adopted son Nestor, the couple tied the knot with few political allies of the beleaguered lawmaker on hand to witness, his touring partner, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), having chosen to spend the day in Alabama attending Donald Trump’s latest MAGA rally.

Apparently, Luckey’s sister, Roxanne, who has called her sibling’s new husband “weird and creepy” and “a literal pedophile,”  was not in attendance at the ceremony.

Gaetz celebrated the nuptials with an announcement on Twitter.

It was a much better picture of the couple than the one that Gaetz had posted from the flight to the west coast before the wedding.

The news of the unexpected acceleration of the union originally believed to be scheduled for next year inspired many jocular comments on social media as people speculated on the motives for the suddenly rapid elopement.

Despite the skepticism of his online detractors, one can only hope that the newly wedded couple packs in their lifetime of bliss into the period before Gaetz’s legal problems wind up sending off to prison for a deservedly long term, assuming the allegations against him are proven in court.
