When it comes to the promulgation of known lies, it’s like father, like son in the Trump family.
Donald Trump Jr. has proven time and again that —either through nature or nurture — he has inherited not only his father’s propensity for ignoring the truth for whatever statement best suits his own interests but his willingness to ignore the proof when his lies are called out and refuted publicly.
Junior’s latest example of latching onto a right-wing extremist lie and refusing to release his death grip on its throat comes with his promotion of a discredited — and now-deleted — social media post purporting to show the Taliban executing a man by dangling his body from a helicopter, an image that shot around the internet after a comedian jokingly captioned a photo of a man being hoisted by a belt around his waist (rather than his neck) in order to place a Taliban flag on top of a building that was otherwise inaccessible.
While Don Jr. wasn’t the only Republican luminary to fall hard for the comedic hoax — the original tweet having been enthusiastically forwarded by people like Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) in their eagerness to criticize the Biden administration’s conduct of the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan — he was the only one who took the trouble to design and post as the banner image on his Twitter home page a “Biden” logo that incorporates the image of a helicopter and a dangling body.
That would be bad enough on its own, but Don Jr. continued with his use of the image — and with his use of the fictional incident to denounce Joe Biden — well beyond the time after the entire trumped-up controversy was deflated by CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale who “thoroughly debunked” the false attribution of what the image was actually displaying.
The claim that the Taliban executed a man via helicopter hanging – promoted by Sen. Ted Cruz, Rep. Dan Crenshaw, and numerous others on the right – has been thoroughly debunked. Here's the most thorough fact check so far, from @zoo_bear: https://t.co/fVQrGrDGrq

Donald Trump Jr. has changed his Twitter banner to a Biden-mocking image featuring a man appearing to be hanged from a helicopter, though, again, the helicopter execution story was imaginary. pic.twitter.com/zcEzg5VI1b

As of the time this article was written, the Biden logo with the helicopter/body image still proudly sits astride Donald Trump Jr.’s Twitter page, so the eldest scion of the disgraced ex-president can’t claim ignorance of the truth as an excuse for his malicious propaganda.
It is only spite and a desire to bring down the Biden administration that motivates Don Jr. at this point.
Once he is in prison, however, his ability to continue to flood social media with socially harmful mistruths will be severely curtailed.
Hopefully, he and the rest of his family will be held accountable for their crimes very soon.
