Cowardice has consequences. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has stood by idly as his party has gradually succumbed to blatant racism and toxic conspiracy theorizing. He’s refused to take action as cretins like Marjorie Taylor Green and accused underage sex trafficker Matt Gaetz become the new faces of the GOP and now he’s starting to reap what he’s sown. During a segment on his personal podcast Firebrand, Gaetz took aim at McCarthy.
“Usually House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy doesn’t have strong reactions to things. It’s not his style. Following the targeting of our members, he surprised and said this,” said Gaetz, before proceeding to quote McCarthy’s shameful statement in which he came out forcefully against Democratic efforts to obtain phone records as part of the probe into the deadly January 6th insurrection. Republicans have forcefully opposed these efforts, leading some to speculate that they have something to hide.
“That’s some huffing and puffing indeed. No low T today,” mocked Gaetz, referring to McCarthy’s testosterone. “But how can we trust Kevin Mcarthy to go beyond talking tough to Nancy Pelosi when he won’t even stand up to Liz Cheney or Adam Kinzinger? You see, Cheney and Kinzinger sit as Nancy Pelosi appointees on the January 6th committee. They’ve crossed the Rubicon, joined the other side.,” Gaetz went on, targeting Republican reps Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger for the simple fact that they’re willing to investigate the insurrection. Trump has been vocal in his disdain for Cheney and wants her removed from office.
“So how in the world do Cheney and Kinzinger justify a critique of Trump for destroying our institutions and violating norms when they’re participating in these Stalinist tactics of the tyrannical left? These phone record demands? Ugh! I mean Kevin McCarthy must remove Cheney and Kinzinger from the committees that they serve on pursuant to their membership in the Republican conference,” Gaetz went on. “Anything less is weakness inviting attack and our leadership shouldn’t invite attack on our people.”
The irony of accusing someone else of using “Stalinist” tactics while calling for members of his own party to be penalized for doing something he disagrees with was clearly lost on Gaetz. Gaetz is the lowest form of partisan hack, a shameless MAGA fanatic without principles or anything even vaguely resembling morality. The failure of the GOP to expel him from the party tells you everything you need to know about where the Republicans are headed.
