Bob Woodward and Robert Costa’s new book about the Trump administration entitled Peril has already made waves with numerous revelatory excerpts about the disastrous, chaotic presidency hitting the internet ahead of its official release today.
We’ve learned that Trump made antisemitic remarks about his son-in-law Jared Kushner, that he insulted House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, and that he slammed the phone down on Lindsey Graham after the senator told him that he had “f*cked” up his presidency. Now a new tidbit about former First Lady Melania Trump has emerged.
According to Woodward and Costa, Melania tried to convince Trump that he hadn’t made a mistake by appointing Republican hatchetman Bill Bar as Attorney General. Trump was upset that Barr had “said nice things about Bob Mueller,” the Republican who was placed in charge of the Trump-Russia probe. Melania offered him a “contrary opinion” on the selection of Barr.
“Are you crazy?” she said to Trump. “This guy’s right out of central casting. Look, that’s an attorney general.” Barr supposedly offered a contrast to the “mousy” Jeff Session. Melania focused on discussing the AG’s “image” because it’s well known that Trump puts “a premium on appearance” and Barr at “six feet and with an extraordinarily large belly, came across as the sober, knowledgeable lawyer.”
At this point, Trump’s obsession with the physical appearance of his staff is beyond parody. He loves to refer to people he likes the look of as coming straight out of “central casting,” a relic from his television days. He has used the phrase to describe Brett Kavanaugh, the accused sexual predator who he appointed to the Supreme Court for life. He’s also used the term to describe former Vice President Mike Pence, former Secretary of Defense James Mattis, as well as governors he likes.
Infamously, Trump was reluctant to appoint John Bolton to a top Cabinet position because he didn’t like his prominent mustache. This man has the brain of a child and we are so fortunate that he is no longer seated in the Oval Office.
