There has perhaps never been a federal lawmaker as disruptive and useless at her primary legislative role as Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).
Banished from her committee assignments by House Minority leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) during his brief period of post-insurrection conscience after footage of Greene harassing David Hogg, a Parkland, Florida school shooting survivor, was widely circulated on social media, Rep. Greene has filled her otherwise empty days by instead taking every opportunity to place herself in the public eye and influence public opinion with her breathtakingly insane rantings promoting every crackpot conspiracy theory circulating amongst the most gullible of our nation’s citizens.
Congresswoman Greene hit a new low yesterday when she disrupted a photo op being held on the Capitol steps by a group of her Democratic colleagues — including Representative Debbie Dingell (D-MI) — after the House passed the Women’s Health Protection Act, which will protect access to abortion.
Greene began shouting at the Democrats, screaming that they “should all be ashamed” and continuing to interrupt their press event with her loud and critical interjections before, her disruptive aims having been achieved, she slunk off.
The Georgia legislator’s outrageous in-person trolling of her political opponents perhaps not coincidentally was quickly followed by an announcement that Greene’s chief of staff, Patrick Parsons, who had accompanied his boss on her verbal assault on her colleagues, was resigning to help elect “America First conservatives.”
Congresswoman Dingell later gave her account of the incident to USA Today:
“She was screaming at all my colleagues… I said, ‘Can’t you be civil to your colleagues?’ She was yelling at them… She was trying to be disruptive and rude to all my colleagues. She was trying to bully and disrupt (my) colleagues. We’re already on edge. We can disagree agreeably. She doesn’t have to go and yell and cause a scene at a press conference.”
Not content with having breached any semblance of collegiality with her co-workers, Greene shot back at Rep. Dingle’s description of the contretemps with a Twitter post that presented the story from the perspective of her departing chief of staff while using an emoji to brazenly insult the Michigan Democrat with a scatological comparison.
Greene’s willingness to not only flout the norms of acceptable social behavior by a government employee but to semi-literally drag her colleagues through her excrement does not bode well for any lessening of the enormous cultural divide between the purposefully deluded MAGA hordes and civilized society.
The congresswoman’s behavior merely demonstrates the inescapable fact that the barbarians are at the gate of our citadel of democracy and must be pushed away and defeated, or else we risk facing a new dark age of medieval superstition and unconstitutional theocracy.
As much as Greene is denounced in the media, only her removal from Congress for her conduct unbecoming a member of the House of Representatives and her disappearance from the national stage will help stave off the consequences of her right-wing agitation run amok.
