New report reveals how Trump allies tried to get Pentagon officials to intervene in 2020 election

The events of the 2020 election and the insurrection at Capitol Hill on January 6th should strike fear into the heart of every American for the threat it posed to the very soul of our nation, but also should inspire hope for how easily the efforts to destroy our democracy were rebuffed by those with the power to change everything.

A new book by ABC reporter Johnathan Karl reveals just how deep the efforts to launch a coup on behalf of Donald Trump went — and how severely we need to punish the perpetrators for their actions. In Karl’s Betrayal: The Final Act of the Trump Show, it is revealed that former Trump National Security Advisor Gen. Michael Flynn tried to enlist the help of Department of Defense official Ezra Cohen-Watnick to take “extraordinary measures” to stop the election from going to Biden.

Flynn allegedly called Cohen-Watnick, telling him to cut his Middle East trip short because “big things were about to happen” and “we need you.” The disgraced general, who allegedly sounded “manic,” told Cohen-Watnick “he needed to get orders signed, that ballots needed to be seized, and that extraordinary measures needed to be taken to stop Democrats from stealing the election.”

Cohen-Watnick was not moved by this plea from an insane man, telling him that “Sir, the election is over…It’s time to move on.” Flynn reportedly responded by yelling “You’re a quitter! This is not over! Don’t be a quitter!”

The DoD official also allegedly received a phone call from the equally insane Sidney Powell, who tried to sell him on a QAnon conspiracy involving a secret CIA attack on a server that contained all the evidence that the voting machines across America were rigged. “[CIA director] Gina Haspel has been hurt and taken into custody in Germany. You need to launch a special operations mission to get her,” said Powell. According to Karl, “the server, Powell claimed, contained evidence that hundreds of thousands, maybe millions, of votes had been switched using rigged voting machines. Powell believed Haspel had embarked on this secret mission to get the server and destroy the evidence — in other words, the CIA director was part of the conspiracy.”

Obviously, none of that is true.
