MTG unleashes lengthy bigoted Twitter rant defending Boebert’s racism against Ilhan Omar

This is a staff report from former Occupy Democrats Editor…
Last week, far-right Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (R-CO) found herself embroiled in scandal when a video went viral of her telling an incredibly racist story about Rep. Ilhan Omar (R-MN). In the clip in question, Boebert claimed that she encountered Omar in an elevator at the Capitol and made a joke about Omar, who is Muslim, being a suicide bomber. The video spread like wildfire on Twitter, with many holding it up as just the latest proof that the GOP has fully committed itself to overt bigotry.
Eventually, Ilhan Omar herself responded by calling Boebert a “buffoon” and revealing that the elevator story was “made up” and that in reality Boebert always “looks down” when sees Omar in person. Omar powerfully condemned her anti-muslim bigotry.
Fact, this buffoon looks down when she sees me at the Capitol, this whole story is made up. Sad she thinks bigotry gets her clout.
Anti-Muslim bigotry isn’t funny & shouldn’t be normalized. Congress can’t be a place where hateful and dangerous Muslims tropes get no condemnation. https://t.co/S1APT7RbqW

Not long after, Boebert attempted damage control by offering up an incredibly tepid apology to the Muslim community for her offensive remarks. She claimed that she had reached out to Omar directly and wants to focus on “policy differences” instead of “unnecessary distraction.” Given Boebert’s long history of bigotry and inflammatory rhetoric, there is absolutely no reason to think she was sincere. She’s just worried about facing the consequences of her hateful words.
I apologize to anyone in the Muslim community I offended with my comment about Rep. Omar. I have reached out to her office to speak with her directly. There are plenty of policy differences to focus on without this unnecessary distraction.

Rather than accept the transparently disingenuous apology, Omar tweeted that joking about her being a “suicide bomber is no laughing matter.” She called on House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to “take appropriate action” because “normalizing” such bigotry endangers not only Omar’s life but the lives of all Muslims. The implication seemed to be that Boebert should be censured, stripped of her committee assignments, and perhaps even expelled from Congress. All three actions would be justified at this point.
Saying I am a suicide bomber is no laughing matter. @GOPLeader and @SpeakerPelosi need to take appropriate action, normalizing this bigotry not only endangers my life but the lives of all Muslims. Anti-Muslim bigotry has no place in Congress. https://t.co/A0VxI3uTmH pic.twitter.com/QTmqaGaZrM

Today, the QAnon Congresswoman herself, a consistent ally of the gun-fetishizing Boebert, waded into the controversy. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene unleashed a length Twitter thread defending Boebert. She said that a Democratic “move” against Boebert would “only help Lauren” and would “reveal” the “true nature” of Democrats.

Add your name to demand Trump be forced to testify for January 6th committee!!
Greene then unleashed her own racist, xenophobic screed by baselessly claiming that Omar married her brother and “revers Al-Qaeda.”

Predictably, Greene’s attack then devolved into a grab bag of right-wing conspiracy theories, dog whistles, and misinformation — all of which have absolutely nothing to do with Boebert’s racist attack on Omar. Greene accused Speaker Pelosi of trying to “destroy” America, smeared Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), dragged Hunter Biden into the mix, and then doubled back to call Omar a “terrorist sympathizer.”
The entire thread is deeply deranged and serves as further proof that Greene can’t be trusted to hold political office.
