It makes a difference when a first lady actually cares about decorating the White House for the Christmas holidays.
It’s particularly obvious after Dr. Jill Biden revealed the Christmas decorations that she’s chosen to celebrate the holiday season that this first lady — unlike her predecessor Melania Trump, who was famously reported to have told her closest associates “who gives a fuck about the Christmas stuff and decorations?” — not only cares about celebrating her religious beliefs but does so in a more traditional style than the cold, modernist, horror-inducing installations that Trump’s immigrant bride has chosen in recent years.
Inspired by the acts of kindness and experiences that lifted our spirits this year, decorated rooms in the White House reflect the Gifts from the Heart that unite us all: faith, family, friendship, the arts, learning, nature, gratitude, service, community, peace, and unity. pic.twitter.com/fsaYFthIqH

Dr. Biden’s themed decorative ideas were further broken down and illustrated in a series of Twitter posts from Alex Gangitano, The Hill‘s White House Correspondent, that demonstrated the looks inspired by each gift the first lady cited in her own post.

Can you imagine Melania Trump defying her husband and including a photo of his predecessor President Barack Obama in her Nightmare Before Christmas-inspired decorating scheme?
The response on social media to Jill Biden’s restoration of a more traditional and less harsh style of White House Christmas decor was uniformly positive, even if many of the comments couldn’t help but compare the warmth and compassion that went into this season’s holiday regalia with the stark and austere taste displayed by the previous first lady.
