Rick Scott Wants to Campaign on Renaming Border Wall after Trump

Just when you think Republican party politics can’t get any dumber and cult-like, Florida Senator and Chair of the Republican National Senatorial Committee Rick Scott has outdone himself.

Before we continue, it’s always good to remind readers that Rick Scott invoked the fifth amendment seventy-five times when being deposed after committing the largest case of Medicare fraud in U.S. history.

With that out of the way, Rick Scott has unveiled an unhinged 11 point plan describing what Republicans will do if they win majorities in Congress after the upcoming midterm elections. The awful proposals include restricting reproductive rights, suppressing voting rights, and raising taxes on retirees whose only income source is Social Security. We outlined this terrible platform here.

We wanted to specifically highlight one of the dumbest and most ridiculous aspects of the plan. In the fourth step, detailing immigration proposals, Rick Scott says that Republicans “will finish building the wall, and name it after President Donald Trump.”

The plan also calls for other anti-immigrant measures including further militarization of the southern border, defunding cities that enact friendly immigration policies, and even going after elected officials that “flout our immigration laws.” What that entails is kept cryptically vague.

The southern border wall is an ineffective and expensive monument to racism. Trump misappropriated up to $3.6 billion allocated for military construction to build the wall during his tenure as president. It’s also an eminent domain nightmare, requiring the seizure of thousands of acres of privately owned lands along the border.

Experts also agree that the border wall is an environmental disaster. The uncompleted 654 miles of walls and fences already existing have isolated and reduced wildlife populations of rare animals like the jaguar and exacerbated flooding when rivers overflow.

The wall was just another one of Trump’s cons, costing taxpayers $15 billion for only 47 miles of new wall where no barrier had existed previously and contracts were given out to companies without competitive bidding or accountability. as Americans faced real issues requiring real solutions, we spent four years during Trump’s presidency directing resources to an idiotic campaign slogan meant to serve as red meat to his supporters.

None of this matters to Rick Scott as he releases his vision of what Republicans will campaign on to retake Congressional majorities. We shouldn’t be surprised that a notorious Medicare Fraudster is doubling down on corruption, division, and inefficiency in an effort to curry favor with Trump, the dear leader of his cult-like party and his followers.
