DISRESPECT: Marjorie Taylor Greene refuses to join her colleagues in applauding Zelensky

It should come as no surprise that after President Volodymyr Zelensky’s short, but moving and impactful speech in front of US Congress on Wednesday, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) was seen looking — for lack of a better phrase — apathetic and unmoved at the outset while other members of Congress delivered a rousing standing ovation.

Even before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24th, Marjorie Taylor Greene was spouting anti-Ukraine rhetoric,  not so subtlely letting us know where she stood…and with whom.

From accusing Ukraine of being Hillary Clinton’s “number one political donor” in the former Secretary of State’s 2016 presidential bid, getting into a social media battle — one that she lost — with Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman, who bravely testified in the first impeachment trial of the twice impeached Donald Trump, to tweeting about ‘securing’ the southern border the day before Zelensky’s speech.

A lot can be said about priorities here.

Greene later applauded Zelensky a couple of minutes later into his speech. But the impression of being distracted or disinterested that her behavior conveyed while attending a historic war room meeting with a foreign leader is still apparent to many viewers of the shorter clip.

The beginning of the invasion saw split GOP support between Russia and Ukraine, but now, the party of all things anti-Biden seems to have pivoted. Rep. Mike McCaul (R-TX) of the House Foreign affairs committee talked of non-partisanship and unity in support of Ukraine. Even Mitch McConnell referred to Zelensky’s speech as “incredibly effective”.

But then again, what else is to be expected from the same woman who heckled President Biden during his State of the Union address. It’s a new low, even for Marjorie Taylor Greene.

I guess we should at least be thankful that she didn’t draw undue attention to herself.

That spared us, Congress, and President Zelensky the embarrassment of witnessing her hooting, hollering stomping, and clapping like a wild and feral animal, engaging in the disrespectful conduct with which we have become all too familiar.

Or, in other words, behavior that has become known as Marge being Marge.

UPDATE: Six hours after publication new video surfaced of the rest of Rep. Green’s conduct, so the paragraph under the video was added to give proper context to the news story. The lede specifically tells readers the story title refers to what happened “at the outset while other members of Congress delivered a rousing standing ovation.” The title adds “first appearance” to denote the beginning of his conference.
